Abstract:A new technique of covalent bonding of polymethacrylic acid onto heparin was described. The free radical polymerization of methacrylic acid was initiated by tetravalent ceric ion in aqueous solution and crosslinked with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate.The polymerization reaction conditions have been optimized. The antithrombogenicityof the resulting crosslinked polymer is determined.The results of recalcifiction time test (RTT) and thrombine time test (TTT) showed that the heparinized polymers are of excellent antithrombogenicity and may be interesting for biomedical applications.
