Institution: | 1. John R. Baldwin is Professor of Communication at Illinois State University. He studies and teaches about domestic and international diversity, identity, and intolerance. His research includes studies on sexual harassment, ethnic stereotypes and communication, as well as cross-cultural adaptation and cross-cultural differences in teaching styles. He has written summary chapters for books on Western communication, communication and relationships, prejudice in communication, and the history of intercultural communication. His co-edited book, Redefining Culture, analyzes the notion of “culture” from several different disciplinary perspectives. He has more recently turned his attention to issues of national, racial, and global identities in Brazilian popular music.jrbaldw@ilstu.edu |

In this brief contribution to the issue’s highlight of scholars in the Central States region, John Baldwin demtails his own circuitous path to academia and highlights the multi-disciplinary work he brings to his research on issues of culture, identity, and tolerance. |
