| 摘 要： | 文学作品中的文化缺省是指作者在与其意向读者交流时,对双方共有的相关背景知识的省略.文化缺省的存在妨碍了跨文化言语交际的顺利进行.译者作为文化交流的使者,有责任在翻译中对之进行重构,以帮助译文读者建立语义连贯,从而更好的理解原语作品的内涵,了解异域文化.本文以《红楼梦》为例,归纳和说明杨宪益、戴乃迭两位译者针对文本中的文化缺省所采取的翻译策略,并对此加以评析.

| Abstract: | Cultural default of literary works can be defined as absence of some cultural background knowledge shared by the author and his/her intended reader. Its existence makes it a task for the translator to reconstruct the default in translation for the TL readers. The reconstruction of cultural default helps the TL readers to build coherence in the text so that they can appropriately understand the text and culture conveyed in it. This paper takes examples from A Dream of Red Mansions translated by YANG Xian-yi and Gladys Yang to sum up and evaluate the various possible translation strategies in dealing with cultural default. |
