| Abstract: | A text refers to any stretches of language,spoken or written,or of whatever length,that is coherent and is received by the receiver as a unified whole.There are various devices which contribute to constructing a text,and anaphora is just one of them.In this paper the author only analyses the role of"the"in a text and its translation.In text cohesive devices,the definite article"the"has no exact meaning semantically.Instead,it means that a referent is specified and identical.It can refer anaphorically to something that has been mentioned before,as well as something that will be said later.While doing translation,the translator should bear in mind that the relationship between anaphor and translation is the semantic relationship,either situational exophora or textual endophora. |
