Abstract: | Although the existence of hormones in insects has been known for many years, it is only comparatively recently — with the benefit of sensitive new techniques of assay, isolation, and sequencing — that an overall picture of their nature has begun to emerge. From this it is clear that, like vertebrate hormones —with which they have some structural affinity — they fall into related families. Apart from their great intrinsic scientific interest, these studies suggest new lines of approach to the development of more potent or discriminating drugs and insecticides. |
