摘    要:原型范畴理论是认知语言学的核心理论之一,对英语词汇教学有较强的解释力。从认知角度重点探讨原型范畴理论及其对英语词汇教学的启示:英语词汇有范畴等级之分;基本范畴词是构词的基础;基本范畴词的原型意义是理解多义词的关键;基本范畴词的隐喻用法多,使用频率高。重视基本范畴词汇教学符合词汇认知规律。掌握基本范畴词汇对语言学习具有举足轻重的作用。

Abstract:The prototype theory,one of the core theories of the cognitive linguistics,which is most explanatorily powerful.This thesis is mainly devoted to the exploration of the implications of the prototype theory for the teaching of the English vocabulary:English vocabulary can be categorized into three categories:super-ordinate category words,basic category words and subordinate category words.Many words are formed on the basis of the basic level words;the prototype meaning of the basic level words is the key to the understanding of the polysemy,basic level words are metaphorical and frequently used.It conforms to the cognitive law to give priority to the teaching of the basic level words.Therefore a good command of the basic level words is essential to the language acquisition.
