摘    要:民族族称是具体历史语境的人造物,具有历史表述的叙事内涵。从“苗”、“苗蛮”到“苗种”再到“苗族”,不同历史时期对“苗”的指涉变化是主流文化建构和现代民族国家权力运作的结果。它不仅反映了中国族群地图上的一次政治建构,也反映了民族集团的形成是一次自上而下的由“他者”设计和督导的对权益进行调配的过程。

Abstract:Nationality is an artificial concept in specific historical context. The different designatum of Miao in different historical period including Miao, Miao ethnic group, Miao Zhong and Miao nationality result from operation of the mainstream cuhure and the modem nation state power. These designatums not only reflect a political construction in the ethnic map of China, also reflect that the forming of ethnic group is a deliberate and top-down power-allocated process designed and supervised by "the other". Hence, tanglement between the historical expression of Miao and Miao nationality and modem construction is not because of its designatum seen as an evolutive difference of a symbol violence, but because it is a process which Miao and Miao nationality as a national imagined community how to be waken up and manipulated by the state and intellectual elite.
