Determining College ‘Establishments’: Burnham vs. The Student‐Staff Ratio |
| |
Abstract: | The implications for college staffing ‘establishments’ of Burnham (1978) and the conditions of service for teachers in further education are contrasted with those operating under a student staff ratio (SSR) regime. The conflict between the two arrangements is identified and the question of how far either mechanism is appropriate to the challenges facing further education is explored. Throughout, the focus is upon management at the college level. |
