| Abstract: | The speech act theory was first proposed by Austin,an English philosopher,in 1950s.Then American linguist Searle,criticized the theory and further developed it,hereby putting forward indirect speech act theory.Since pragmatics was regarded as a new branch of linguistics,the theory,as a core subject,aroused extensive interests among scholars.It mainly deals with the problem of how language is used to "act",instead of what it "refers to",exemplifying an new outlook of linguistics——"performing by speaking". |
