| 摘 要： | 专业性和高深性是高等教育的基本特征和内涵。从中外高等教育的历史变迁看：古代高等教育是与当时的政治、军事、宗教等活动结合在一起，属于相对较高水平的教育；近代高等教育是一种围绕学科、专业来组织的专业教育；现代高等教育是反映现代化需要的多样性、大众化、民主化的多元特征的高深学问教育。从词典解释、法理阐释、学者界定等多重维度对高等教育概念进行解读，梳理出不同思维方式视角下对高等教育的理解。高等教育的概念不是一成不变的，而是随着时代的发展而不断发展变化的。
