| Abstract: | When Wu Changshuo （1844-1927） swore in as the first chair- man of the prestigious Xiling Seal-engravers Society in 1913, the humble late bloomer was already 69. At the inaugurating ceremony, the master inscribed a couplet that described himself as ＂a farmer＂, showing his heart-felt humbleness. He was modest and humble for a reason： he rose to fame in his 60s in Shanghai and he was from a village in Huzhou in northern Zhejiang. |
