| Abstract: | A non-invasive imaging technique based on the inelastic (Compton) scattering of X- and Gamma radiation has been developed during the past ten years. Applications of this relatively new diagnostic probe range from distinguishing tumours from surrounding tissue to observing microporosity in plastic explosive shells. The present article describes the principle of the method and illustrates the diversity of applications, which are to be found in both medical and industrial fields. |
