基于原型范畴的英语多义词习得实证研究

摘    要:在几乎所有的语言中,一词多义是一种重要的语义特征。该文以认知语言学中的原型理论为依据,以实证为基础,通过对中国某大学英语专业约50名学生的实验研究和定量分析,探析大学生英语多义词习得能力,并根据测试结果探讨核心义项在多义词习得中的重要性,进而分析大学生多义词习得的障碍。实验结果表明,原型范畴理论能促进多义词习得,提供多义词的核心义项更有利于学生准确猜测其在句中的相关义项。在多义词习得中,学习者忽视了核心义项的重要性,未能充分利用隐喻与转喻两大认知手段掌握其他派生义项。该研究能为多义词的教学提供依据。

Abstract:Polysemy is an important semantic feature in almost all languages.Based on the prototype theory in cognitive linguistics,and through an experimental study and quantitative analysis on polysemy acquisition of about 50 junior English majors in a Chinese university,the paper attempts to explore college students’ competence and obstacles existing on polysemy acquisition by analyzing the role of proto typical meaning in acquisition of polysemous words on the basis of empirical data.The results show that prototype theory plays an active role in polysemy acquisition and prototypical meaning is more helpful for students to guess the right meaning in the sentence.In polysemy acquisition,learners often neglect the importance of prototypical meaning and cannot make full use of metaphor and metonymy to learn other peripheral meanings.The paper can help teachers design the teaching strategies of polysemous words.
