Abstract:The current study aimed to explore the mediating role of reading interest and reading engagement in the relationship between teacher support and middle school students’reading literacy.599 middle school students(grade 8)were surveyed using the Reading Literacy Test,Reading Questionnaire, and Teacher Support Questionnaire.Structural equation model for data modeling analysis was used. The results showed that:1)teacher support affected students’reading literacy through the complete chain mediation of reading engagement and reading interest;2)teacher support affected students’reading interest through the complete mediating role of reading engagement. The study shows that teachers should reform the methods in teaching reading, and provide support from aspects including emotional care, learning guidance and ability training so as to carry out in-depth teaching of reading;they should also guide students to develop interest-oriented reading engagement to improve students’learning autonomy.
Keywords:teacher support  reading engagement  reading interest  reading literacy  mediating effect
