| Abstract: | The cultivation of students＇ self-learning ability is one of the key areas of English teaching reform. And the establishment of self-access center is an efficient instrument to impel this process. In our department, the average level of students＇ English listening ability is not high and there are also great disparities among them. Thus, a self-access language learning （SALL） center was established with abundant English video-audio resources provided and various personnel allocated. Then, a one-year training program of English viewing and listening based on the SALL center was carried out among the freshmen. With the statistical analysis of results from several tests, the self-learning activities organized can dramatically improve students＇ English listening ability. |
