Abstract:According to mentalism, the optimal age for language acquisition is before 10 years old because during this period, the LAD (Language Acquisition Device) in human brain has plasticality. But since puberty, this plasticality begins to disappear which sometimes even ends up in fossilization. However, some adults do have acquired the target language competence through hard work. Starting from the theory of behaviorism and mentalism, this essay, based on the experimental results of applying the language sense training model to practice at small and medium scale, tries to provide some operational quantitative data in order to prove that the LAD during post puberty can be activated for language acquisition on condition that the learners receive enough and appropriate input.
