| 摘 要： | 关于我国古代乡约的研究，学术界曾给予了高度重视，出现了相当多的研究成果，但这些成果并未从宏观角度对其进行研究。文章以宋明两代的《吕氏乡约》、《教民榜文》、《南赣乡约》为切入点。从乡约的属性、职能、作用、发展等角度对宋明乡约进行探讨。北宋的《吕氏乡约》是我国历史上最早出现的成文乡约。它的诞生对后世的社会教化和乡村治理产生了及其重要的影响；明代是乡约的发展鼎盛时期．并且从理论和实践两个层面发展了宋代的乡约，使乡约得到大力提倡，让这一民间组织充分发挥其社会教化、救助、法律等职能。
