Group Process |

| Abstract: | This paper describes how the group process can be effectively utilized as a means of preparting students for work with populations that are "foreign" to them. Using the elderly as an example, a group design is described, that allowed students to take on the character of an elderly person over a 6-8 week period, and to "know" the issues that the elderly face, on an effective as well as a cognitive level. Examples of group cohesion, the move of the group towards intimacy, and its use as an analytic tool are discussed, as are the advantages of experiential and didactic kinds of learning experiences. |
