| Abstract: | Faced with diminishing staffs and budgets, and the difficulty of recruiting skilled serialists, librarians are exploring alternative methods for getting the job done. Several members of the National Library of Medicine staff describe their experiences with Flexiplace, a program that allows employees to do most of their work from home with small purchase orders or contracts for services. Flexiplace is described, and the successes and limitations of working with contracts for special language cataloging, binding preparation, check-in, and other tasks are discussed. |
