THE SERIALS MICROFORM CENTER |
| |
Abstract: | There is now an urgent need for microform resource service center development to cope with the growing crisis in library space requirements, collection growth, and especially serial acquisitions as a result of inflation and age neml reordering of nationalpriorities. Trends, pmctices, gmnts, and solutions (theoretical and otherwise) are extractedfmm recentlypublished litemture to suggest that thisproposal is an eminently feasible goal for present problems. Some issue is taken with the recent networking developments that improve bibliographic information exchange only to discourage interlibrary loans through the imposition of high service fees by a growing number of libraries. Further, collection integrity is a Proformance Rating(à la Gore-Theswell) factor achieve with a microform resource service center that is unlikely ever to be ever realized through other service storage models, including the Phoenix Library Plan. |
