| Abstract: | To find English abstracts' defects, to improve the quality of English abstract writing, and to increase the number of papers abstracted by world-famous retrieval systems and the impact factor of scientific periodicals, the authors contrasted 124 pieces of original author abstracts pubished in Journal of BeiJing Medical University (the journal's name had been changed to Journal of Peking University (Health Sciences from 2001. ) in 1999 and 2000 with those abstracted and modified by Chemical Abstracts document analysts. Defects of English abstract writing included: misuse of definite article "the", experiment obJects hadn' t been expressed in paper titles, inapprOPriate position of adverbial composition, redundant expression, use of uncommon abbreviations and so on |
