ABSTRACTThree community college students participated in a collaborative student/professor research project to experiment with new ideas in teaching. Under the direction of the instructor, the students studied the South African riots in Soweto, 1976, and how issues of language and power were connected to this event. This investigative process began with video information to introduce students to the key issues, and was then followed by student research and discussion. The students, who were particularly motivated to understand the conflict by relating it to their own linguistic circumstances, worked individually and together to find articles and video sources to support their personal interests and ideas. By reflecting on their experiences and perceptions about language and communication, students were able to become engaged in an unfamiliar historical topic, discover relevant academic information, evaluate sources, and formulate insightful responses. 相似文献

The Czech Republic, England, France, Germany and Sweden differ culturally and economically, but they commonly exhibit general trends of decentralisation in the control of educational processes and outcomes. The present contribution looks at these five European countries as the venue for case studies in educational restructuring as well as evaluation, assessment and reporting. It shows that such trends have been most radical in the Czech Republic and Sweden, while England has centralised curriculum policy and France has devolved some decision-making to bodies at lower levels, but as representatives of the central state. 相似文献

艾沃·古德森对教育变革中出现的各种模式进行了理论探讨,指出国家的学校体系是世界变革力量的折射镜,理解这种社会折射过程,才能发展出一套变革的理论,才能对学校教育保持高度的灵敏度。20世纪70年代后期之前,内生变革理论一直是变革理论的关键,这一理论关注那些被教育工作者群体用以发起和促进变革的各种资源,而此后,变革理论的关注点开始转向分析并历史地比较不断变化的变革的各种条件,对外生关联和内生因素之间不断变动的平衡做出解释,从而发展出教育变革的"外生关系"模式。教育变革的两难困境只能在具体的地方情境中被理解。英国的案例表明,教育变革对"老的专业人员"之职业精神的攻击,导致了共同记忆的丧失、导师的流失、教师队伍的稳定等方面的问题。 相似文献

AbstractIn this paper, we consider the relationship between the existence of private schools and public attitudes towards questions about educational provision. Data from the 2010 British Social Attitudes survey suggest that parents who choose to send children to private schools may become more entrenched in their support for more extensive forms of parental partiality, with potential ramifications for the future supporting of progressive education policy. We suggest that addressing questions about the existence of certain forms of education and school choice policies requires consideration of the broader ethical environment. 相似文献
