In recent years,public speaking has become more important and useful for undergraduate students.Many colleges and universities have opened the public speaking course and have achieved much success.In this paper,we first emphasize the importance of communication by public speaking,and let students become interested in public speaking.Secondly,we have studied the relativity of spoken English and public speaking;we have found obviously both have strong relation when students study in the class.Finally,we discuss the method we used and the experience we had in English spoken class. 相似文献

In the present competitive society, English becomes more and more important, and how to master English becomes one popular topic for everyone. English is a communicative tool, however, traditional teaching method used in English teaching is not very suitable, and the traditional teaching is very boring and inefficient. It is known that the IELTS test has not been a good predictor of English capability in academic settings. More information is required. Are students not motivated to keep improving their English; what obstacles do they face? The English language issues facing international students from China at one University are explored through a survey and focus groups. It is observed that a lack of motivation is not the key factor. Rather one core problem is the very difficult demands of acculturation within a short time frame which would enable confidence for the students to continue to engage with other English speaking students. When faced with such immediate and hard to achieve acculturation, many retreat to their language groups. In the academic context, support for the transition to discipline based academic genres is double difficult as the time frame for second language learners is longer, but performance requirements are more immediate. Many first language students also have difficulties in this area, but have the easier language path to mastery. The paper attempts to explore the current situation of English learners’ speaking achievements and their speaking anxiety in Chinese higher education. Through reviewing the previous researches, it is possible to find out that: 1) there is a negative relationship between speaking anxiety and speaking performance; 2) most teachers have noticed the negative impact of speaking anxiety on their students, yet they have not adopted efficient strategies to solve the problem; 3) both teachers and students rely more on academic strategies than cognitive or affective strategies. The goal of teaching English speaking is to improve students’ communicative efficiency, or make students speak the target language clearly, coherently, accurately and fluently (Xu, 2005). However, in China, a number of students in an English speaking class tend to be passive and reluctant to speak out or be singled out publicly mainly due to their high anxiety, which, of course, becomes a significant constraint on improving their English proficiency. Therefore, how to create a relaxed atmosphere with a sense of security in the English speaking class to alleviate Chinese learners’ anxiety and to provide them with as many opportunities as possible to practice speaking English and improve their English proficiency is one of the central tasks for language teachers.his paper will firstly outline my teaching context in China in physical, pedagogical, institutional and personal aspects. This will be followed by the definition and classification of language learning anxiety, and the analysis of various factors contributing to foreign language learners’ anxiety as well as some suggestions of how to reduce the learners’ anxiety in the oral class according to the current literature. English grammar tends to be treated as a kind of knowledge explained and transmitted at tertiary level in China.Students engage in memorizing grammar rules,but they are unable to use them correctly and appropriately when speaking and writing.This article attempts to help students to make use of the rules through meaningful practice in grammar class.It is based on communicative approach and of a kind of eclecticism.The activities mentioned provide students with some opportunities to interact in classroom and use knowledge of English grammar in social contexts in which communication takes place and through which the rules will be internalized accordingly. 相似文献

Interactive communication is not straightforward but complicated. Prosodic features play an influential role in English communication. They can be used to signal certain pragmatic purposes in real situations for listeners and speakers to have mutual understanding. Identifying the pragmatic functions of prosodic features will facilitate the teaching of listening and speaking. Based on the researches of language transfer,contrastive analysis and error analysis,this paper tries to investigate the negative transfer of Chinese on Chinese students’English writings from the perspective of syntax.During one and a half months’teaching practice in Shannxi Hanzhong No.1 Middle School,the author lived through the real teaching process and found that there were lots of problems in students’English writings.The author makes a contrastive study of the different characteristics existing in Chinese and English languag es at the level of syntax,and analyses the typical syntactic errors appearing in the 60 students’English compositions collected from one or dinary class.These syntactic errors are caused by the negative transfer of Chinese.The purpose of the investigation is to study in what pat tern students have been influenced by Chinese in their English writings.Based on the findings and analysis of the mother tongue transfer on English writings,some implications are also provided in order to help minimize or eliminate the interference of negative transfer of the Chinese in students’English writings and improve the teaching and learning of English. 相似文献

The main purpose of this paper is to explore the perception of applying self-and peer-assessment in English writing,through an Action research process.The learning in the programme,the students have learnt translating Chinese into written English for first stage,and have learnt writing in English for second and third stage through self-and peer-assessment.The research result shows that the most students feel that the process of self-and peer-assessment are useful for improving their English writing skill and they feel that self-reflection and peer discussion around their English writing is helpful for promoting the development of self-and peer-assessment.Especially,key findings about four types of students are more important.Overall,based on student’s perception about using self-and peer-assessment,learning written in English is also an ongoing research,it can develop the ability of students’ ability to solve problems independently,and raise their language communicative competence gradually. 相似文献
