The Alma Jordan Library (AJL) is located on the St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago and is the largest academic library in the University of the West Indies' library system. This article examines interlibrary loan and document delivery (ILL/DD) services, discusses existing ILL/DD activities, and analyzes usage statistics at this Caribbean educational institution. It reviews the current literature that exists about ILL/DD in the Caribbean and other academic institutions outside the region. This article serves to add to the body of literature on this topic and provides practical recommendations for improving the current service. 相似文献

Abstract Globally, there has been an increased demand for Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery (ILL/DD) services. As the profession has struggled to meet this demand, many new theories, models, procedures, and technologies have been implemented in libraries and reported in library literature. This article surveys the varied and voluminous literature that has appeared from the years 1995 through 2000. Literature is broadly defined to include not just published books and journal articles, but also conference events, Web sites, and electronic publications. Topics addressed include: Reference Sources for ILL/DD; National and International Initiatives; Theory, Management, and Practice of ILL/DD; Document Delivery; Resource Sharing; and Copyright and Licensing. 相似文献

In spite of the widespread trend of e-book adoption by U.S. academic libraries, interlibrary loan (ILL) of e-books is significantly lagging behind because of license agreement restrictions, unstandardized platforms, library policies, and technological barriers. More recently, the long-cherished tradition of ILL has been further challenged, because an increasing number of academic libraries are adopting user-based e-book purchasing models that have the potential to bypass ILL. This paper compares the findings of two longitudinal surveys on e-book ILL practices in U.S. academic libraries, based on random sampling. The results from inferential statistical analyses reveal that, while inter-library lending of entire e-books is seldom practiced and shows no growth, e-book chapter ILL is becoming more prevalent in U.S. academic libraries. Librarians have grown more knowledgeable about licensing and technological issues, but their perceptions of these barriers are mixed. The study also shows that larger institutions are more likely to perform e-book ILL services, and their librarians tend to be more positive about the future of e-book ILL. 相似文献

This paper describes the statistics of 1340 inter-library loan/photocopy (ILL) requests processed by the Reference & Information Services Division of the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) Library, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia from 1 April 1985 to 31 March 1986. The objective of compiling the statistics is to assess the weak and strong areas of the library’s collection so that necessary steps may be taken to balance the collection. Also, it is hoped that these statistics would provide valuable results which will help in managing ILL in future as the number of ILL requests are increasing every year. 相似文献

This paper presents data from two statewide ILL studies conducted in Illinois in 1995/96 and 1999/00. The results from the two studies provide a longitudinal look at borrowing and lending in Illinois and with the second study confirm a journal resource-sharing model for the state. Further analysis of high-use titles was conducted to determine any impact the present availability of full-text electronic journals is having on ILL, and the potential impact full-text access to highly-requested titles could have on resource sharing in Illinois. 相似文献

ABSTRACT Based in the UK, the Forum for Interlending is an organisation set up specifically for Interlibrary Loan and Document Supply practitioners. It was founded in 1988 and has developed into a significant player in the UK ILL and DD world. Despite membership being largely drawn from UK institutions, FIL has worked to establish links with many individuals and organisations overseas and one of its stated aims for this year is to seek members outside Europe. To this end FIL is represented on IFLA and distributed promotional material at the 1999 IFLA conference held in Bangkok. 相似文献
