Increasingly, academics have to demonstrate that their research has academic impact. Universities normally use journal rankings and journal impact factors to assess the research impact of individual academics. More recently, citation counts for individual articles and the h-index have also been used to measure the academic impact of academics. There are, however, several serious problems with relying on journal rankings, journal impact factors and citation counts. For example, articles without any impact may be published in highly ranked journals or journals with high impact factor, whereas articles with high impact could be published in lower ranked journals or journals with low impact factor. Citation counts can also be easily gamed and manipulated, and the h-index disadvantages early career academics. This paper discusses these and several other problems and suggests alternatives such as post-publication peer review and open-access journals.  相似文献

Two large independent sources of data, NSF's University Science Statistics Program Integrated Data Base and CHI Research's bibliometric data base, are brought together in a comprehensive study of the relationships among research resources, as measured by R&D expenditures, and research output, as measured by the quantity and visibility of scientific journal articles. The study is based on approximately 500 U.S. colleges and universities. For each of 11 fields of science, there is strong indication of a linear relationship between R&D expenditures and number of papers. The evidence also indicates a positive relationship between number of cites received per paper and number of papers published, but only for papers published in the basic research journals of the fields of chemistry, physics, and biology.  相似文献

采用神经网络方法建立了评估期刊影响因子与相关影响因素之间非线性对应关系的分析模型,模型以刊期、总被引频次、即年指标、载文量、被引半衰期、引用半衰期、他引比、基金论文比、Web即年下载率等为网络的输入,以影响因子作为网络的输出,根据中国期刊综合引证报告提供的数据进行了网络训练和测试。分析表明,影响因子受刊期影响最大,受他引比、载文量影响较大,受基金论文比、即年指标影响较小,而与Web即年下载率几乎无关。  相似文献

This paper argues that the content, analytical approaches and institutional affiliations of authors of articles published in the latest issues of two leading educational policy studies journals provide useful insights into the contested nature of educational policy studies. The paper draws upon a selection of articles published in 2007/08 issues of two flag-ship policy journals, the UK-based Journal of Education Policy, and the US-based Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis. At the same time, the article is also suggestive of how Pierre Bourdieu's analytical resources of field, habitus and capital might be used to understand the academic journal publication practices which contribute to this contestation. The paper suggests that these journals and the articles within them may be construed as valued capitals and ‘traces’ of a broader conflict over what is considered valid research within the field of educational policy studies.  相似文献

利用中国引文数据库和中国学术期刊网络出版总库,对2011年版《中文核心期刊要目总览》中的15种综合性大学学报自然科学版2004—2013年的载文及引文情况进行调研,并对各刊该段时间内高频被引论文进行统计分析。结果表明,15种学报载文量增减不一,复合影响因子变化规律不尽相同,高被引论文呈现发表时间越长被引用次数越多的态势。从期刊的长远发展角度看,应着重打破地域限制,向热点和重点领域的稿源倾斜,以保持和提升期刊的影响力。  相似文献

There has been a steady stream of research exploring the impact of scholars' research within criminology/criminal justice journals (CCJ), but only a small number of studies have examined the impact of female scholars in particular. Extending that line of work, the present study identifies the most productive sole and lead female authors published in eight top-ranked CCJ journals between 2000 and 2010. Findings reveal that individual ranks of the female scholars are relatively stable when adjusting for frequency and journal impact factor. However, there is more movement in the ranks when they are adjusted based on the year the PhD. degree was earned. Consistent with previous research including both males and females, a handful of female scholars, in particular Robin Engel, Beth Huebner, Jodi Lane, and Nicole Leeper Piquero appear to be responsible for a large portion of work in the selected eight elite CCJ journals.  相似文献

以1990年至2009年中国期刊网收录的有关大学英语写作研究文献为研究对象,重点对2000至2009年间国内八大外语类核心期刊刊载的大学英语写作研究论文进行考察,发现研究者集中在词汇语法、篇章结构、写作教学、影响写作的因素、读者反馈等方面对英语写作教学作了细致的探讨;同时,大学英语写作研究成果整体呈上升的趋势,研究内容广泛,实证性研究不断增加,写作主体越来越受到重视.  相似文献

In this study a teacher trainer analyses 56 papers from the journal Educational Studies and, applying specific criteria, determines the extent to which their content can be said to have applications to and implications for educational practice. Section 1 of the study explores the general context of the sample papers. Findings here show that in this set of papers the academic research is conducted and written almost exclusively by staff within Schools of Education in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs); that the authorship includes a higher proportion of males than females; that research style is mainly empirical and that gender may play a role in the research style itself; and, significantly for this study, that the titles of these papers, when considered exclusively, imply a close association with the classroom context. In Section 2, a systematic scrutiny of the content of a sub-sample of the papers reveals a significant trend of potential, as opposed to actual relevance to educational policy and practice—at variance with the findings for the study of their titles alone in Section 1. Additional findings are that there is little evidence in the papers of direct collaboration between HEIs and schools. Finally, Section 3 contains the author's personal reflections on communication of the research message within the sample and ways are suggested in which the writing in academic journals generally might be made 'barrier-free' to the wider educational community. Concluding comments tend to be made as appropriate within the body of the paper at the point of discussion. The main conclusion briefly considers the role of Initial Teacher Training tutors in Higher Education, and the issue of monitoring language and communication style in academic research.  相似文献

2000年—2010年11年间,中国语言焦虑的研究取得了突飞猛进的发展,无论是从理论的引进,还是教学中的实践与思考,都不断服务着国内的外语教学。与此同时,中国的认知发展水平与国外的研究发展水平仍存在一定的差距,对语言焦虑的研究仍存在一些不足,要填补这些不足就需要总结经验和教训,取长补短,将研究的新成果不断应用到新的教学模式下的语言学习中去,从而加快中国外语研究事业和教育事业的蓬勃发展。  相似文献

We discuss what document types account for the calculation of the journal impact factor (JIF) as published in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). Based on a brief review of articles discussing how to predict JIFs and taking data differences between the Web of Science (WoS) and the JCR into account, we make our own predictions. Using data by cited-reference searching for Thomson Scientific's WoS, we predict 2007 impact factors (IFs) for several journals, such as Nature, Science, Learned Publishing and some Library and Information Sciences journals. Based on our colleagues' experiences we expect our predictions to be lower bounds for the official journal impact factors. 目的从文献引证的角度透视《昆明大学学报》的学术水平和期刊编辑特点。方法引用《CNK I知网数字图书馆》的中国学术期刊网络出版总库中的《中国期刊文献引证数据库》,采用文献计量学方法对该刊2001~2005年载文被《中国期刊文献引证数据库》来源期刊引用的情况进行统计分析及评价。结果该刊2001~2005年共载文283篇,被引用103篇,占发表文章总数的36.39%。被引用次数共231次,其中单篇平均被引次数为2.24次;被引频次5次的论文数量为9篇。结论:《昆明大学学报》所载文献与本校办学方向、教学内容结合紧密。  相似文献
