I consider the difficulty of deciding what to include in a one-semester course on language education in English education for preservice teachers. While it is imperative to prepare teachers to talk about language in written texts, other concerns of the English classroom, from classroom talk to reflections on self, can be illuminated by knowledge about language. I describe different representations of the language system: one proposed in a scope and sequence document prepared by a group of linguists and educators in the United States; and the other Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG), which, while relatively unknown and unsupported in the United States, has influenced education in Australia. While I admire the advances in language education being made in the United States, in my view, SFG offers a conceptual advantage to those who want to make the link between grammar and broader concerns. I believe it is possible to use SFG conceptually in the design of classroom activities, while also relying on non-SFG methods to make visible, for instance, the operations of talk in the classroom. In the end, I advocate linking language to issues that matter, focusing above the language system to meaning-making more broadly, and using knowledge about language in the service of social analysis as well as the interpretation of texts.  相似文献

Deaf students often differ from their hearing peers in written language development. Providing developmentally appropriate instruction is ideal, yet current methods of writing assessment do not provide teachers with sufficient information regarding the written language (i.e., syntactic) development of deaf students. In this research, we use a Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) approach to language analysis to provide teachers with a new way to evaluate deaf students’ writing. This project consisted of two studies. The first study focused on determining whether SFG analysis could be helpful for teachers of the deaf. The second study focused on mapping a trajectory of the written language development of deaf students and the development of written language inventory for teachers of the deaf. This inventory, along with additional evaluation tools, has the potential to impact both objective setting and instruction.  相似文献

This paper presents a novel leapfrog signal flow graph (SFG) implementation by fully differential Op amp integrators, which combines low sensitivity, high dynamic range with simple circuit configuration. The direct SFG simulation and leapfrog SFG simulation can yield integrator-based structures likewise, but both of them will lead to higher circuit complexity, noise density and sensitivity. Three Butterworth 5-order high-pass filters with a pass band edge frequency of 1.778 kHz are designed based on different SFGs. From the example, the noise density of the sim- plest leapfrog configuration is approximately 0.4 nV/Hz~/2 lower than those of the other two in the stop band, and shows the best noise density in the pass band. The sensitivity densities of two types of leapfrog filters are approxi- mately equivalent, while that of the direct SFG simulation filter is much higher. However, the pass band response of the simplest configuration is not as good as those of the other two because of two parasitic zeros (at 708 kHz, -31.6 dB and 1.59 MHz, 20.55 dB) and a parasitic pole (at 4.57 MHz, 45.5 dB).  相似文献

波长变换技术是组成全光分组交换网中的重要技术之一,而当前比较成熟的基于半导体光放大器的波长转换技术在传输速率、信号格式、波长转换通道数和灵活性上还存在缺陷,不利于今后高速大容量光网络的发展。本文提出了基于周期极化掺氧化镁铌酸锂(PPMgLN)晶体的非线性波长转换方案,该方案采用I型准相位匹配(QPM)技术实现宽带倍频(SHG)、和频(SFG)和差频(DFG),再通过级联二阶倍频差频(cSHG/DFG)或级联二阶和频差频(cSFG/DFG)波长转换机制,实现全光通信波长转换。在全光网络中,该方案能够很好地解决波长竞争、传输格式达到完全透明、降低网络阻塞率、提高网络传输速率等问题。  相似文献
