Offering a separate, popular reading collection can be a valuable public service in academic libraries. Popular reading is also known as leisure reading, recreational reading, and reading for pleasure. These phrases are synonyms for an interest in reading bestsellers, mysteries, romance novels, biographies, graphic novels, humor, self-help, or popular nonfiction, among other literature categories. This article examines the survey data of popular reading collections in the public universities of three southeastern states. It also discusses the popular reading collection at the author's library, also located at a southeastern public university, and analyzes the data from both circulation records and a survey of more than 100 patrons who used the collection during the fall 2008 semester.  相似文献

This article presents selected results from a study investigating the promotion of recreational reading in university libraries in the United Kingdom. An email questionnaire survey and follow-up interviews with a sample of respondents explored provision and attitudes toward recreational reading. The results suggest that recreational reading promotion is increasing in UK university libraries. Participants were positive about the benefits of recreational reading but they identified a number of barriers preventing them from increasing their activity including finance, staff time, and mission drift. The article concludes with recommendations for increasing recreational reading including the need for better staff awareness and training.  相似文献

An online survey distributed to librarians at public libraries across North America established some interesting trends in public librarians’ perceptions of ebooks and teens. Some of the findings of this study are that teen library users strongly prefer to read print books for their recreational reading and show very little interest in ebooks or ebook programs offered by public libraries. Survey respondents indicate that teen library users remain largely unaware of or disinterested in the advantages of ebooks in providing them a convenient, private, and customizable recreational reading experience. Even when public librarians offer ebook programs for teens through school outreach, these programs tend to focus on the titles in the collection and the download process, rather than the specific benefits of ebook reading. More active promotion of these advantages could potentially appeal to teens, especially to non-library users and reluctant readers.  相似文献

This case study describes the creation of a leisure reading collection in the Clifford Whitworth library at the University of Salford. It briefly surveys existing literature on leisure reading collections and looks at the growing interest among U.K. academic libraries in recreational reading. It considers the reasons for promoting reading as a leisure activity to students and describes the processes of selecting, purchasing, and marketing the collection at Salford. It also considers possible future developments for the collection and the evaluation of the library's attempts to encourage a culture of reading among Salford students. The positive response to the collection suggests the development of leisure reading is a worthwhile activity for academic libraries to focus on and the study contains useful information for others who are interested in creating a similar collection.  相似文献

This article discusses the steps the St. Catherine University library took to create a book club on campus. 采用用户体验、追踪访谈等实证研究方法,以武汉大学移动图书馆为例,从阅读时间、获取方式、阅读内容、阅读便利4个维度研究发现用户移动阅读认知和体验的行为特点:实验前对图书馆移动阅读服务了解少;实验者随时随地进行碎片化阅读,但受WiFi热点分布影响;对休闲娱乐类资源粘性强,对学术性内容阅读较少。基于此,为综合性高校图书馆移动阅读服务设计优化提出建议。  相似文献

采用光沉积-液相化学法调节电子流向,构建了直接Z型TiO2/Ag/Ag3PO(4 )(TAAPO)光催化材料.通过扫描电子显微镜(SEM)、透射电子显微镜(TEM)、X射线衍射仪(XRD)、X射线光电子能谱(XPS)、紫外-可见漫反射光谱仪以及光致发光(PL)光谱仪等手段对其进行表征,并对其在可见光照射下催化降解环丙沙星(CIP)的性能进行了研究.结果表明,当水体pH为3.0,催化剂分散浓度为0.3 g/L,CIP的初始浓度为15 mg/L时,光催化降解体系能够取得最佳的去除效果.在该组条件下,光照120 min CIP的降解率约为99%,并且在经历4个循环后仍然保持了良好的降解效果.在光催化降解CIP的过程中,主要反应活性物种为超氧自由基(·O2  相似文献

However, there is a very real frustration of a patron who cannot find the material they need. There are very few studies that provide a working model for shelf reading. [目的/意义] 建立多部门协同管理阅读疗法长效机制模式, 探讨阅读疗法对患者身心健康和医患关系改善的效果。[方法/过程] 采用读者决策采购模式优化馆藏结构。利用病区助理、human Library及沙龙等形式对阅读疗法进行深入研究。选择甲乳外科、胸外科、肿瘤内科3个病区患者300例, 随机分为两组, 其中对照组:采用传统的健康教育方式, 干预组对患者采用阅读科研小组提供的相关阅读资料等方法, 应用“以阅读为中心的阅读疗法和交互式阅读疗法”相结合进行阅读疗法干预。用自制阅读效果评价表、SAS、SDS和t检验等方法对读者进行阅读效果评估。[结果/结论] 干预组SAS和SDS评分均低于对照组。阅读疗法干预后患者满意度得到明显提高。阅读疗法可以改善患者的情绪, 帮助其调整心态, 减轻病痛, 提高战胜疾病的信心, 并积极配合医护人员治疗。  相似文献

Are we becoming an aliterate society? The demand for recreational reading appears to be on the decline while the demand for films, DVDs, and other formats is on the rise. Is this an indicator that students of today are selecting viewing over reading? What, if any, is the impact on collection development of academic libraries? To answer these questions, the authors administered a survey to determine if students elect to read when given choices or if they prefer viewing instead. [目的/意义] 通过调查个体从业人员这一群体的阅读需求满足情况,考察基层图书馆阅读服务体系的建设状况。[方法/过程] 深度访谈30名个体从业人员并调查周边基层图书馆,分析他们的阅读需求满足情况。[结果/结论] 受访者通过移动阅读设备、网上书城、实体书店、图书馆满足阅读需求,手机接触率最高,图书馆接触率最低。社区图书室缺少独立的阅读空间,阅读资源有限,无专职管理人员,日常阅读服务缺位。原因在于:区图书馆无法参与社区图书室管理,对区图书馆的评估不能促进社区图书室主动发挥作用。建议加强政府层面的协调、强化区县图书馆对社区图书室的管理职能;帮助社区图书室开展标准化的日常服务;把社区图书室服务条件和服务效能纳入社区和区县图书馆考核指标体系。  相似文献

[目的/意义]调查美国公共图书馆儿童数字阅读推广的现状,为我国儿童数字阅读推广实践工作提供参考。[方法/过程]根据服务人口分9级,每级随机抽5家公共图书馆,通过网络调查美国45家公共图书馆数字阅读平台功能及儿童数字阅读推广实践活动。[结果/结论]美国公共图书馆为儿童提供个性化数字阅读分区,丰富的多媒体资源,联合各方力量协作开展儿童数字分级阅读推广活动。建议我国公共图书馆:提高儿童数字资源质量;注重儿童年龄差异;加强多方合作,拓宽儿童数字阅读活动渠道。  相似文献

[目的/意义] 针对高校图书馆阅读推广模式发展历程进行阶段划分,对每个阶段下模式的构成要素变化情况进行剖析,并指出高校图书馆阅读推广模式未来发展趋势。[方法/过程] 5W理论和文献分析法为模式的内涵界定和构成要素分析提供依据;Citespace可视化工具的处理结果、阅读推广媒介和读者阅读习惯的变化为发展阶段划分提供依据。[结果/结论] 高校图书馆阅读推广模式是由其要素在特定时空下排列组合固化而成。其发展分为基于到馆读者的传统纸质阅读推广模式阶段、面向网络用户的数字化阅读推广模式阶段、基于一般用户的手持电子阅读器外借服务推广模式阶段、面向手机用户的微平台互动式阅读推广模式阶段和面向新时代读者的多元化立体阅读推广模式阶段。推广主体专业化、推广方式游戏化、推广对象社会化、推广内容碎片化、效果评估系统化为模式发展趋势。  相似文献
