A follow‐up was conducted on groups of students who initiated steps in the admission process at a community college, but never enrolled. These students were telephone surveyed and compared to similar groups of students who actually enrolled. The stated reasons for non‐enrollment were job issues, financial aid, and personal reasons. Yet when the pre‐admission basic skills tests were compared, the non‐enrolling students had significantly lower scores, leading the authors to conclude that poor academic preparation was a very important reason for non‐enrollment.  相似文献

The planning and production of a photo-play as a group project involves the natural discipline of a technical job and the through exploration of the subject under study. At the same time it provides a logical conclusion and presentation which is its own record of achievement and a source of legitimate pride to its makers. The photo-play also forms an entertaining and valuable recapitulation of the study for the group and is an effective teaching aid for use with other groups, taking advantage of that curious capacity of children to give more concentrated attention to the work of their peers than their teachers.  相似文献

The effect on students' attitudes of using a microcomputer as a demonstration aid was investigated in an intermediate algebra class. The subjects were 110 college students, 51 of whom participated in an experimental instructional strategy that involved a microcomputer as an aid in teaching mathematical concepts. The results suggest a significant treatment effect on students' attitude favoring the microcomputer treatment group.  相似文献

Three methods of training remedial reading tutors were compared. One group of college student volunteers heard lectures and received written handouts describing seven tutoring skills. Another group received the handouts and observed an expert model demonstrate the skills. A third group was given handouts, practiced the skills, and received feedback on performance. All groups attended eight half-hour training sessions. Data from videotaped tutoring tests indicated all groups made significant improvements in the target behaviors. The group that practiced the skills and received feedback made the greatest gains and was significantly better than the other two groups at the end of treatment. The demonstration group also was significantly better than the lecture group.  相似文献

The current study evaluated the use of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) platforms, developed within the scope of the SKILLS Integrated Project, for industrial maintenance and assembly (IMA) tasks training. VR and AR systems are now widely regarded as promising training platforms for complex and highly demanding IMA tasks. However, there is a need to empirically evaluate their efficiency and effectiveness compared to traditional training methods. Forty expert technicians were randomly assigned to four training groups in an electronic actuator assembly task: VR (training with the VR platform twice), Control-VR (watching a filmed demonstration twice), AR (training with the AR platform once), and Control-AR (training with the real actuator and the aid of a filmed demonstration once). A post-training test evaluated performance in the real task. Results demonstrate that, in general, the VR and AR training groups required longer training time compared to the Control-VR and Control-AR groups, respectively. There were fewer unsolved errors in the AR group compared to the Control-AR group, and no significant differences in final performance between the VR and Control-VR groups, probably due to a ceiling effect created by the use of two training trials in the selected task for participants who were expert technicians. The results suggest that use of the AR platform for training IMA tasks should be encouraged and use of the VR platform for that purpose should be further evaluated.  相似文献

The job aid also recommends the most suitable assessment formats for a given learning objective level. Instructional techniques and assessment formats together provide an effective instructional strategy for classroom training design. 将不同学习水平和能力的学生分成不同教学小组,开展项目化课程教学,有利于老师因材施教和小组内同学交流与互动;有利于激发学生学习兴趣和转变学生的学习方式,提高学习效果.然而在实际教学中,分组的随意性很大,没有科学的标准和方法,导致项目化课程的教学质量不高.本文通过对学生的知识、能力、素质等综合分析,利用模糊等价聚类法,把不同特征的学生聚类,为开展项目化课程教学提供科学的分组依据,取得了较好的教学效果.  相似文献

A videotaped demonstration was compared with a conventional laboratory experiment in physiology for first‐year pharmacy students. The experiment was designed as an exercise in the use of the scientific method. The class was divided into a control group who performed the experiment for themselves, and an experimental group who were given the demonstration and spent most of the time analysing and interpreting the data using a semi‐programmed report sheet. After the practical session all students wrote an essay‐type report. The short‐ and long‐term gains resulting from practical work were assessed using objective pre‐ and post‐tests of cognitive performance. An answer review was given to half of each treatment group after the first post‐test. The short‐term gains were very moderate and were not significantly different for the treatment groups. The long‐term gains were significantly higher for the subgroups given the test answer review. The essay report did not reinforce the gains from the practical experience. Formal assessment of laboratory work did not stimulate motivation and interest in practical work. The findings imply that the role of practical work in some aspects of physiology might usefully be reviewed  相似文献

The effects of retention and demonstration intervals on serial position were evaluated in two experiments with Long-Evans rats. A list of 3 demonstrators that had eaten one of three flavored foods was presented to naive observers. In Experiment 1, there were four groups, three groups with a retention interval compared with one group with a zero retention interval or no retention interval. In Experiment 2, the demonstration interval was reduced. Intervals of 15, 5, 2, and 1 min were used. In Experiment 1, primacy decreased gradually in the four groups as the retention interval was increased in duration. In Experiment 2, primacy also decreased gradually, and recency occurred with the 1-min demonstrator interval. The increase in the duration of the retention interval reduced primacy. The reduction in the duration of the demonstration interval decreased primacy and produced recency.  相似文献

This mixed-methods research compared job satisfaction among counselors working in pre-schools and primary-schools. Its quantitative phase included 223 counselors, 70 of whom also participated in the qualitative phase. A demographic information form, job-satisfaction scale and a semi-structured interview protocol were used to collect data. Quantitative analysis indicated that the primary-school counselors’ job satisfaction was higher than that of the pre-school counselors. There were no statistically significant differences in satisfaction between the two groups based on gender, age, or marital status, or the interaction of any of those three demographic factors with the type of school where they worked. In the qualitative phase, approximately half of the primary-school counselors but just one-third of the pre-school counselors reported their job satisfaction as being high; and around half of the pre-school group and one-third of the primary-school group reported that school type where they worked had a negative impact on their job satisfaction.  相似文献

This study examined the relationship between community college organizational climate and the conflict communication styles of individuals and job groups within the college. More specifically, this study investigated the relationships of employee perceptions concerning organizational communications, collaboration, formal influence, structure, focus on students, and work design/technology to their self-identified affinities for seeking solutions, control, or avoidance in conflict situations with their immediate supervisors.
