Cellular reprogramming involves the conversion of a specialized cell into a cell which possesses properties similar to an embryonic stem cell. The Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, 2012, was awarded jointly to two researchers, Sir John Gurdon and Shinya Yamanaka, for their creative and brilliant discovery involving the conversion of a mature differentiated cell into an immature cell, capable of giving rise to all the cell types in the body. Stem cells constitute an important class of cells in the body that have the ability to perpetuate themselves and remain in an uncommitted state by a process of self-renewal as well as to specialize into new cell types. Their ability to differentiate into multiple cell types marks the tremendous potential of stem cells for tissue repair and organ regeneration. Realization of this potential is rapidly opening up unexplored avenues for curing several ailments including diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases. However, very little is understood about the basic biology of stem cells. For example, what are the biochemical tags that allow us to identify stem cell? Which are the signaling pathways that regulate their function? How does the environment (niche) influence major decisions made by stem cell? Is stem cell therapy the end to all woes, or is there a flip side to the story? Science instruction is typically highly dependent on visual representations of scientific concepts that are communicated through textbooks, teacher presentations, and computer-based multimedia materials. Little is known about how students with visual impairments access and interpret these types of visually-dependent instructional materials. This study explored the efficacy of new haptic (simulated tactile feedback and kinesthetics) instructional technology for teaching cell morphology and function to middle and high school students with visual impairments. The study examined students’ prior experiences learning about the cell and cell functions in classroom instruction, as well as how haptic feedback technology impacted students’ awareness of the 3-D nature of an animal cell, the morphology and function of cell organelles, and students’ interest in the haptic technology as an instructional tool. Twenty-one students with visual impairment participated in the study. Students explored a tactile model of the cell with a haptic point probe that allowed them to feel the cell and its organelles. Results showed that students made significant gains in their ability to identify cell organelles and found the technology to be highly interesting as an instructional tool. The dimensions and the materials type limit the performance of fuel cell. The increase of the temperature in electrodes and electrolyte of the cell,is due to the over potential of activation (transfer of load),the over potential Ohmic (resistance of polarization),the over potential of reaction (heat released by the chemical reaction) and the over potential of diffusion. In this paper,we studied the thermo-electrical performance of an intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cell (IT-SOFC) with electrode supported. The aim of this work is to study this increasing temperature of a single cell of an IT-SOFC under the influence of the following parameters: heat sources,functioning temperature and voltages of the cell,geometric configuration and materials type. The equation of energy in one dimension is numerically resolved by using the method of finite volumes. A computing program (FORTRAN) is developed locally for this purpose in order to obtain fields of temperature in every element of the cell.  相似文献

通过建立大鼠有氧游泳训练和过度游泳训练运动心脏模型,观察长期不同负荷训练后心肌细胞HSP70的表达情况,探讨运动诱导心肌细胞HSP70表达的规律,旨在为进一步研究运动员心脏提供实验依据.研究结果表明,运动训练可诱导心肌细胞HSP70表达增强,并且HSP70的表达与运动负荷存在一定的关系,随运动负荷增加,其表达呈上升趋势.  相似文献
