Sentiment lexicons are essential tools for polarity classification and opinion mining. In contrast to machine learning methods that only leverage text features or raw text for sentiment analysis, methods that use sentiment lexicons embrace higher interpretability. Although a number of domain-specific sentiment lexicons are made available, it is impractical to build an ex ante lexicon that fully reflects the characteristics of the language usage in endless domains. In this article, we propose a novel approach to simultaneously train a vanilla sentiment classifier and adapt word polarities to the target domain. Specifically, we sequentially track the wrongly predicted sentences and use them as the supervision instead of addressing the gold standard as a whole to emulate the life-long cognitive process of lexicon learning. An exploration-exploitation mechanism is designed to trade off between searching for new sentiment words and updating the polarity score of one word. Experimental results on several popular datasets show that our approach significantly improves the sentiment classification performance for a variety of domains by means of improving the quality of sentiment lexicons. Case-studies also illustrate how polarity scores of the same words are discovered for different domains.  相似文献

Sentiment analysis concerns about automatically identifying sentiment or opinion expressed in a given piece of text. Most prior work either use prior lexical knowledge defined as sentiment polarity of words or view the task as a text classification problem and rely on labeled corpora to train a sentiment classifier. Nowadays, stress has become a growing problem for society due to its high impact on individuals but also on health care systems and companies. In order to overcome this problem, early detection of stress is a key factor. Previous studies have shown the effectiveness of text analysis in the detection of sentiment, emotion, and mental illness. However, existing solutions for stress detection from text are focused on a specific corpus. There is still a lack of well-validated methods that provide good results in different datasets. We aim to advance state of the art by proposing a method to detect stress in textual data and evaluating it using multiple public English datasets. The proposed approach combines lexicon-based features with distributional representations to enhance classification performance. To help organize features for stress detection in text, we propose a lexicon-based feature framework that exploits affective, syntactic, social, and topic-related features. Also, three different word embedding techniques are studied for exploiting distributional representation. Our approach has been implemented with three machine learning models that have been evaluated in terms of performance through several experiments. This evaluation has been conducted using three public English datasets and provides a baseline for other researchers. The obtained results identify the combination of FastText embeddings with a selection of lexicon-based features as the best-performing model, achieving F-scores above 80%.  相似文献

In spite of the vast amount of work on subjectivity and sentiment analysis (SSA), it is not yet particularly clear how lexical information can best be modeled in a morphologically-richness language. To bridge this gap, we report successful models targeting lexical input in Arabic, a language of very complex morphology. Namely, we measure the impact of both gold and automatic segmentation on the task and build effective models achieving significantly higher than our baselines. Our models exploiting predicted segments improve subjectivity classification by 6.02% F1-measure and sentiment classification by 4.50% F1-measure against the majority class baseline surface word forms. We also perform in-depth (error) analyses of the behavior of the models and provide detailed explanations of subjectivity and sentiment expression in Arabic against the morphological richness background in which the work is situated.  相似文献

Sentiment analysis concerns the study of opinions expressed in a text. Due to the huge amount of reviews, sentiment analysis plays a basic role to extract significant information and overall sentiment orientation of reviews. In this paper, we present a deep-learning-based method to classify a user's opinion expressed in reviews (called RNSA).To the best of our knowledge, a deep learning-based method in which a unified feature set which is representative of word embedding, sentiment knowledge, sentiment shifter rules, statistical and linguistic knowledge, has not been thoroughly studied for a sentiment analysis. The RNSA employs the Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) which is composed by Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) to take advantage of sequential processing and overcome several flaws in traditional methods, where order and information about the word are vanished. Furthermore, it uses sentiment knowledge, sentiment shifter rules and multiple strategies to overcome the following drawbacks: words with similar semantic context but opposite sentiment polarity; contextual polarity; sentence types; word coverage limit of an individual lexicon; word sense variations. To verify the effectiveness of our work, we conduct sentence-level sentiment classification on large-scale review datasets. We obtained encouraging result. Experimental results show that (1) feature vectors in terms of (a) statistical, linguistic and sentiment knowledge, (b) sentiment shifter rules and (c) word-embedding can improve the classification accuracy of sentence-level sentiment analysis; (2) our method that learns from this unified feature set can obtain significant performance than one that learns from a feature subset; (3) our neural model yields superior performance improvements in comparison with other well-known approaches in the literature.  相似文献

Sentiment analysis concerns the study of opinions expressed in a text. This paper presents the QMOS method, which employs a combination of sentiment analysis and summarization approaches. It is a lexicon-based method to query-based multi-documents summarization of opinion expressed in reviews.QMOS combines multiple sentiment dictionaries to improve word coverage limit of the individual lexicon. A major problem for a dictionary-based approach is the semantic gap between the prior polarity of a word presented by a lexicon and the word polarity in a specific context. This is due to the fact that, the polarity of a word depends on the context in which it is being used. Furthermore, the type of a sentence can also affect the performance of a sentiment analysis approach. Therefore, to tackle the aforementioned challenges, QMOS integrates multiple strategies to adjust word prior sentiment orientation while also considers the type of sentence. QMOS also employs the Semantic Sentiment Approach to determine the sentiment score of a word if it is not included in a sentiment lexicon.On the other hand, the most of the existing methods fail to distinguish the meaning of a review sentence and user's query when both of them share the similar bag-of-words; hence there is often a conflict between the extracted opinionated sentences and users’ needs. However, the summarization phase of QMOS is able to avoid extracting a review sentence whose similarity with the user's query is high but whose meaning is different. The method also employs the greedy algorithm and query expansion approach to reduce redundancy and bridge the lexical gaps for similar contexts that are expressed using different wording, respectively. Our experiment shows that the QMOS method can significantly improve the performance and make QMOS comparable to other existing methods.  相似文献

There is a strong interest among academics and practitioners in studying branding issues in the big data era. In this article, we examine the sentiments toward a brand, via brand authenticity, to identify the reasons for positive or negative sentiments on social media. Moreover, in order to increase precision, we investigate sentiment polarity on a five-point scale. From a database containing 2,282,912 English tweets with the keyword ‘Starbucks’, we use a set of 2204 coded tweets both for analyzing brand authenticity and sentiment polarity. First, we examine the tweets qualitatively to gain insights about brand authenticity sentiments. Then we analyze the data quantitatively to establish a framework in which we predict both the brand authenticity dimensions and their sentiment polarity. Through three qualitative studies, we discuss several tweets from the dataset that can be classified under the quality commitment, heritage, uniqueness, and symbolism categories. Using latent semantic analysis (LSA), we extract the common words in each category. We verify the robustness of previous findings with an in-lab experiment. Results from the support vector machine (SVM), as the quantitative research method, illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed procedure of brand authenticity sentiment analysis. It shows high accuracy for both the brand authenticity dimensions’ predictions and their sentiment polarity. We then discuss the theoretical and managerial implications of the studies.  相似文献

Vital to the task of Sentiment Analysis (SA), or automatically mining sentiment expression from text, is a sentiment lexicon. This fundamental lexical resource comprises the smallest sentiment-carrying units of text, words, annotated for their sentiment properties, and aids in SA tasks on larger pieces of text. Unfortunately, digital dictionaries do not readily include information on the sentiment properties of their entries, and manually compiling sentiment lexicons is tedious in terms of annotator time and effort. This has resulted in the emergence of a large number of research works concentrated on automated sentiment lexicon generation. The dictionary-based approach involves leveraging digital dictionaries, while the corpus-based approach involves exploiting co-occurrence statistics embedded in text corpora. Although the former approach has been exhaustively investigated, the majority of works focus on terms. The few state-of-the-art models concentrated on the finer-grained term sense level remain to exhibit several prominent limitations, e.g., the proposed semantic relations algorithm retrieves only senses that are at a close proximity to the seed senses in the semantic network, thus prohibiting the retrieval of remote sentiment-carrying senses beyond the reach of the ‘radius’ defined by number of iterations of semantic relations expansion. The proposed model aims to overcome the issues inherent in dictionary-based sense-level sentiment lexicon generation models using: (1) null seed sets, and a morphological approach inspired by the Marking Theory in Linguistics to populate them automatically; (2) a dual-step context-aware gloss expansion algorithm that ‘mines’ human defined gloss information from a digital dictionary, ensuring senses overlooked by the semantic relations expansion algorithm are identified; and (3) a fully-unsupervised sentiment categorization algorithm on the basis of the Network Theory. The results demonstrate that context-aware in-gloss matching successfully retrieves senses beyond the reach of the semantic relations expansion algorithm used by prominent, well-known models. Evaluation of the proposed model to accurately assign senses with polarity demonstrates that it is on par with state-of-the-art models against the same gold standard benchmarks. The model has theoretical implications in future work to effectively exploit the readily-available human-defined gloss information in a digital dictionary, in the task of assigning polarity to term senses. Extrinsic evaluation in a real-world sentiment classification task on multiple publically-available varying-domain datasets demonstrates its practical implication and application in sentiment analysis, as well as in other related fields such as information science, opinion retrieval and computational linguistics.  相似文献

The emergence of social media and the huge amount of opinions that are posted everyday have influenced online reputation management. Reputation experts need to filter and control what is posted online and, more importantly, determine if an online post is going to have positive or negative implications towards the entity of interest. This task is challenging, considering that there are posts that have implications on an entity's reputation but do not express any sentiment. In this paper, we propose two approaches for propagating sentiment signals to estimate reputation polarity of tweets. The first approach is based on sentiment lexicons augmentation, whereas the second is based on direct propagation of sentiment signals to tweets that discuss the same topic. In addition, we present a polar fact filter that is able to differentiate between reputation-bearing and reputation-neutral tweets. Our experiments indicate that weakly supervised annotation of reputation polarity is feasible and that sentiment signals can be propagated to effectively estimate the reputation polarity of tweets. Finally, we show that learning PMI values from the training data is the most effective approach for reputation polarity analysis.  相似文献

Polarity classification is one of the most fundamental problems in sentiment analysis. In this paper, we propose a novel method, Sound Cosine Similaritye Matching, for polarity classification of Twitter messages which incorporates features based on audio data rather than on grammar or other text properties, i.e., eliminates the dependency on external dictionaries. It is useful especially for correctly identifying misspelled or shortened words that are frequently encountered in text from online social media. Method performance is evaluated in two levels: i) capture rate of the misspelled and shortened words, ii) classification performance of the feature set. Our results show that classification accuracy is improved, compared to two other models in the literature, when the proposed features are used.  相似文献

Climate change has become one of the most significant crises of our time. Public opinion on climate change is influenced by social media platforms such as Twitter, often divided into believers and deniers. In this paper, we propose a framework to classify a tweet’s stance on climate change (denier/believer). Existing approaches to stance detection and classification of climate change tweets either have paid little attention to the characteristics of deniers’ tweets or often lack an appropriate architecture. However, the relevant literature reveals that the sentimental aspects and time perspective of climate change conversations on Twitter have a major impact on public attitudes and environmental orientation. Therefore, in our study, we focus on exploring the role of temporal orientation and sentiment analysis (auxiliary tasks) in detecting the attitude of tweets on climate change (main task). Our proposed framework STASY integrates word- and sentence-based feature encoders with the intra-task and shared-private attention frameworks to better encode the interactions between task-specific and shared features. We conducted our experiments on our novel curated climate change CLiCS dataset (2465 denier and 7235 believer tweets), two publicly available climate change datasets (ClimateICWSM-2022 and ClimateStance-2022), and two benchmark stance detection datasets (SemEval-2016 and COVID-19-Stance). Experiments show that our proposed approach improves stance detection performance (with an average improvement of 12.14% on our climate change dataset, 15.18% on ClimateICWSM-2022, 12.94% on ClimateStance-2022, 19.38% on SemEval-2016, and 35.01% on COVID-19-Stance in terms of average F1 scores) by benefiting from the auxiliary tasks compared to the baseline methods.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce HEMOS (Humor-EMOji-Slang-based) system for fine-grained sentiment classification for the Chinese language using deep learning approach. We investigate the importance of recognizing the influence of humor, pictograms and slang on the task of affective processing of the social media. In the first step, we collected 576 frequent Internet slang expressions as a slang lexicon; then, we converted 109 Weibo emojis into textual features creating a Chinese emoji lexicon. In the next step, by performing two polarity annotations with new “optimistic humorous type” and “pessimistic humorous type” added to standard “positive” and “negative” sentiment categories, we applied both lexicons to attention-based bi-directional long short-term memory recurrent neural network (AttBiLSTM) and tested its performance on undersized labeled data. Our experimental results show that the proposed method can significantly improve the state-of-the-art methods in predicting sentiment polarity on Weibo, the largest Chinese social network.  相似文献

Irony as a literary technique is widely used in online texts such as Twitter posts. Accurate irony detection is crucial for tasks such as effective sentiment analysis. A text’s ironic intent is defined by its context incongruity. For example in the phrase “I love being ignored”, the irony is defined by the incongruity between the positive word “love” and the negative context of “being ignored”. Existing studies mostly formulate irony detection as a standard supervised learning text categorization task, relying on explicit expressions for detecting context incongruity. In this paper we formulate irony detection instead as a transfer learning task where supervised learning on irony labeled text is enriched with knowledge transferred from external sentiment analysis resources. Importantly, we focus on identifying the hidden, implicit incongruity without relying on explicit incongruity expressions, as in “I like to think of myself as a broken down Justin Bieber – my philosophy professor.” We propose three transfer learning-based approaches to using sentiment knowledge to improve the attention mechanism of recurrent neural models for capturing hidden patterns for incongruity. Our main findings are: (1) Using sentiment knowledge from external resources is a very effective approach to improving irony detection; (2) For detecting implicit incongruity, transferring deep sentiment features seems to be the most effective way. Experiments show that our proposed models outperform state-of-the-art neural models for irony detection.  相似文献

The polarity shift problem is a major factor that affects classification performance of machine-learning-based sentiment analysis systems. In this paper, we propose a three-stage cascade model to address the polarity shift problem in the context of document-level sentiment classification. We first split each document into a set of subsentences and build a hybrid model that employs rules and statistical methods to detect explicit and implicit polarity shifts, respectively. Secondly, we propose a polarity shift elimination method, to remove polarity shift in negations. Finally, we train base classifiers on training subsets divided by different types of polarity shifts, and use a weighted combination of the component classifiers for sentiment classification. The results on a range of experiments illustrate that our approach significantly outperforms several alternative methods for polarity shift detection and elimination.  相似文献

We investigated how people react emotionally to working with robots in three scenario-based role-playing survey experiments collected in 2019 and 2020 from the United States (Study 1: N = 1003; Study 2: N = 969, Study 3: N = 1059). Participants were randomly assigned to groups and asked to write a short post about a scenario in which we manipulated the number of robot teammates or the size of the social group (work team vs. organization). Emotional content of the corpora was measured using six sentiment analysis tools, and socio-demographic and other factors were assessed through survey questions and LIWC lexicons and further analyzed in Study 4. The results showed that people are less enthusiastic about working with robots than with humans. Our findings suggest these more negative reactions stem from feelings of oddity in an unusual situation and the lack of social interaction.  相似文献

Nowadays, online word-of-mouth has an increasing impact on people's views and decisions, which has attracted many people's attention.The classification and sentiment analyse in online consumer reviews have attracted significant research concerns. In this thesis, we propose and implement a new method to study the extraction and classification of online dating services(ODS)’s comments. Different from traditional emotional analysis which mainly focuses on product attribution, we attempted to infer and extract the emotion concept of each emotional reviews by introducing social cognitive theory. In this study, we selected 4,300 comments with extremely negative/positive emotions published on dating websites as a sample, and used three machine learning algorithms to analyze emotions. When testing and comparing the efficiency of user's behavior research, we use various sentiment analysis, machine learning techniques and dictionary-based sentiment analysis. We found that the combination of machine learning and lexicon-based method can achieve higher accuracy than any type of sentiment analysis. This research will provide a new perspective for the task of user behavior.  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze the influence of Twitter users in sharing news articles that may affect the readers’ mood. We collected data of more than 2000 Twitter users who shared news articles from Corriere.it, a daily newspaper that provides mood metadata annotated by readers on a voluntary basis. We automatically annotated personality types and communication styles of Twitter users and analyzed the correlations between personality, communication style, Twitter metadata (such as followig and folllowers) and the type of mood associated to the articles they shared. We also run a feature selection task, to find the best predictors of positive and negative mood sharing, and a classification task. We automatically predicted positive and negative mood sharers with 61.7% F1-measure.  相似文献

Quickly and accurately summarizing representative opinions is a key step for assessing microblog sentiments. The Ortony-Clore-Collins (OCC) model of emotion can offer a rule-based emotion export mechanism. In this paper, we propose an OCC model and a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based opinion summarization method for Chinese microblogging systems. We test the proposed method using real world microblog data. We then compare the accuracy of manual sentiment annotation to the accuracy using our OCC-based sentiment classification rule library. Experimental results from analyzing three real-world microblog datasets demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed method. Our study highlights the potential of combining emotion cognition with deep learning in sentiment analysis of social media data.  相似文献

As an emerging task in opinion mining, End-to-End Multimodal Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (MABSA) aims to extract all the aspect-sentiment pairs mentioned in a pair of sentence and image. Most existing methods of MABSA do not explicitly incorporate aspect and sentiment information in their textual and visual representations and fail to consider the different contributions of visual representations to each word or aspect in the text. To tackle these limitations, we propose a multi-task learning framework named Cross-Modal Multitask Transformer (CMMT), which incorporates two auxiliary tasks to learn the aspect/sentiment-aware intra-modal representations and introduces a Text-Guided Cross-Modal Interaction Module to dynamically control the contributions of the visual information to the representation of each word in the inter-modal interaction. Experimental results demonstrate that CMMT consistently outperforms the state-of-the-art approach JML by 3.1, 3.3, and 4.1 absolute percentage points on three Twitter datasets for the End-to-End MABSA task, respectively. Moreover, further analysis shows that CMMT is superior to comparison systems in both aspect extraction (AE) and sentiment classification (SC), which would move the development of multimodal AE and SC algorithms forward with improved performance.  相似文献
