The Joy Luck Club, written by Amy Tan, has got a landslide winning when it was published in the year of 1989. It not only attracts the western readers but also the Asian ones. Amy Tan wrote this novel partly according to her own living experience. Her mother is the first generation and she is totally growing up in America. She herself does not have a good relationship with her mother when she was young. What we can tell from the Joy Luck Club. This paper will reread the novel from the feminism aspect about the four pair’s mothers and daughters, not only focusing on the daughters’ rebirth from their marriage but also on their rediscovering of themselves.

One of the most successful teachers I’ve had is Mrs. Karen in college. She was my foreign teacher and the reason I think that she was successful is that most of her students had enormous respect for her and I always felt comfortable in her teaching environment.

The only Chinese person who worked in my office was Gillian Tang. She had come to London from south China to complete her education and this was her first job. To us westerners she was a most unusual person. She was kind to everyone, and never suspected that anyone might abuse her kindness. She was the sort of person who, if she heard any of us talking about a book or a video or something else which we wanted to borrow or buy, she  相似文献

Sister Carrie is one of the most controversial characters in American literature.Thought as a "fallen woman" firstly, she was defined as a "new woman" by some critics later. However, by digging into the motivaton behind the whole process of Carrie's "success", the relationship between Carrie and her creator (the author), the social conditions of then American, it can be found that Carrie has never been free-standing on her thought and she has never found her real-sdf even after becoming a famous actress. In a society dominated by mass consumerism Carrie is only an adherent of her own desires. She also is a representative of all those country girls flooded into cities, a symbol and a sacrifice of the urbanization of America in a time countryside was overcome by cities.

Olive Robinson began her teaching career in a village school. After marriage she taught for a short while in London before moving to Oxford and taking time out to bring up her family. Returning to teaching in the 1970s she developed an interest in children with learning difficulties and taught, organised and coordinated special needs in several different comprehensive schools over a period of 15 years. She became a part‐time tutor at Oxford University Department of Educational Studies where, after her retirement from teaching, she became a guest lecturer. She also taught part time at Ruskin College and contributed to the Special Educational Needs Diploma course as an associate lecturer at the then Oxford Polytechnic. Her greatest love, however, was her time spent as organiser of an adult basic skills class where she met many fascinating and generously optimistic tutors and students.

Increasingly, the third-level sector across the world has acknowledged a hopeless track record of promoting and retaining competent women in leadership roles. However, change, in terms of women’s contribution and participation, has been minimal at least, or gradual at the most optimistic. In this paper, a woman with more than two decades experience as a full-time academic in the field of higher education relates her sense of loss and purposelessness when attempts to reach for a higher level position were consistently unsuccessful. Using autoethnography she relates her experiences of sexism in higher education, and the ways in which sexism turns into oppression through silencing. She proposes how her experiences point to the need for change, and she indicates that training to reduce gender bias has been proven to improve feelings of workplace fit for participants who collaborate with people who have addressed their gender bias.
