Translation is an art.The translation of Tang poetry, the cultural treasure of our country,is even more"an art of arts",in the sense that Tang poetry not only pays heed to the content, artistic conception, and emotion expressed by the poet, but also to the refinement of language, the rhyme of antithesis, with its creation background behind even more obscure. At all times and all over the world, translation theories emerge one after another, but the highest standard of poetry evaluation should be the"Three Beauties Theory",that is,the beauty of image, the beauty of sound, and the beauty of form, which was put forward by Xu Yuanchong, the great master in Chinese translation circle. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and compare the three different English versions of Spring Perspective by Du Fu.  相似文献

Chinese poetry has a very long and remarkable history. It is one of the most important representatives of China’s ancient civilization of 5000 years.Chinese poetry utilizes quite a large number of methods in order to be more melodious and charming.Reduplicated words,as a figure of speech, are one of the most frequently used form among them.Reduplicated words as an active rhetorical device can add more flavor and taste to poems. They have the advantages of expressing the stylistic beauty effectively in form, sound and sense, thus push the article to its topmost aesthetic beauty. This paper, from a stylistic perspective, first discusses and argues the translatability of reduplicated words and then the importance to maintain the style of reduplicated words. After that it tries hard to put forward some favorable ways of dealing with the translation of reduplicated words so that reduplicated words in classical Chinese poetry can be appropriately translated without damage to the original style and flavor.  相似文献

Image is not only an essential part, but also a major means to convey the implications in English poems. It is a literal and concrete representation of a sensory experience of an object. The rendering of images in English poems into Chinese can be guided by the dynamic equivalent translation theory put forward by Dr.Eugene A Nida. The theory emphasizes the roughly equivalent response of the target language receptors to the TL text to that of the source language receptors to the SL text.To achieve a Dynamic Equivalence, methods like Direct Translation,Addition, and Substitution can be employed in the translation of images in English poems.  相似文献

Literary writing is inseparable from aesthetic values and it is the same as with literary traslation. However, due to different social and cultural traditions, people from different culture have different presuppositions and expectations of beauty, which cause difficulty in conveying this beauty in literary translation. This paper tries to analyze the respective effects of the Chinese and western aesthetic values on the translation between the Chinese language and the English one.By analyzing the differences in the aspects of philosophical influence, moral standards and the form between the Chinese culture and the English one, this paper concludes that it is the task of the translators to make some adjustment in order to cater to the aesthetic values of the target language and convey the beauty of the original work to readers at the same time.  相似文献

The issue of the translatability of poetry is still under hot discussion. Translation of poetry was, and still is by some, believed as impossibility, for the myth of untranslatability looks upon poetry as beauty itself which is untouchable for once it is touched it is destroyed[1]. From different perspectives, such as the perspective of word formation, pun, reduplicated words etc, the author argues that poetic translation is translatable, and that poetry and aesthetics can be reproduced in another language and culture if accommodation is made.  相似文献

Translation means the conversion of an expression into another language. To say plainly,It is an art to reproduce the exact idea of the author by means of a language different from the original. So the original thought of the expression must be kept as exactly as possible. The duty of the translator is simply to change the vocabulary not the thought. Literal translation and free translation are two essential ways in translation. Literal translation refers to an adequate representation of the original in sequence of vocabulary, in grammatical structure and rhetorical device. Free translation is also called liberal translation, which does not adhere strictly to the form or word order of the original. Which one is preferable? We can hardly say. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.Argument between them has been more than 80 years. What on earth is the argument? What do they focus on? The argument brings great effect to us, so I want to find some answers to it.  相似文献

"Jianjia"("蒹葭"),one of the most famous poems in Shijing(《诗经》), is characterized by balanced sound patterns and euphonious rhythm. Investigation into the stylistic elements in both the source text and the English translation of"Jianjia"shows us the musicality in ancient Chinese poetry and its limits of translatability.  相似文献
