Some ethnic minority groups in the U.K. have worked on mental health issues within their communities, but there has been little research of how the Japanese community regards these issues. However, it has been shown recently that there are Japanese people in the U.K. who are suffering from living in another culture, and the need to establish systems and facilities to deal with mental health issues for the Japanese community has been identified. It is important to explore how we can develop the services in a culturally appropriate way. In the U.K., counselling and psychotherapy are largely based on Western psychology and cross-cultural issues focus mainly on Black/White relationships, and some issues are not applicable to Japanese clients. This article explains the current stream of cross-cultural issues in the U.K. and some aspects of Japanese culture. It goes on to summarise research results and address the need for professional services, highlighting possible obstacles and problems, as well as the areas where more work is required. 相似文献

Many individuals are creating instruction that will be used for online learning. This paper reviews four generic categories of instructional principles: Instructional Design (pedagogical issues), Subject Matter (content issues), Language (semantic and syntactic issues), and Presentation (physical issues), that should be used as guidelines when designing instructional materials. Nine current considerations for the context of online learning are drawn from the literature and experience and we show how each relates to these existing guidelines. We conclude the four generic categories of instructional principles apply equally to the design of instruction for the context of online learning and most issues that people talk about when designing online instruction are simply elaborations of these existing principles. A job aid is provided to help designers systematically consider essential principles when designing online instruction. 相似文献

The increasing number and variety of controversial scientific and technological issues with which citizens are confronted has led, in recent years, to calls for a schooling of science which prepares future citizens for participation in resolving such issues. We examined the social conscience of science teachers as it bears on the teaching of controversial issues. The study was conducted by interviewing teachers in two widely different English-speaking locations, Scotland and the United States. The research explores the perceptions of teachers with regard to the teaching of controversial issues, the problem of handling personal value positions when dealing with issues, and the tension that exists between the teaching of controversial issues and traditional value-free science curricula. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 相似文献

Australia, like the rest of the developed world, is in the midst of dealing with notable issues related to the age structure
of its academic workforce. These issues are widespread and have been articulated in the Australian context most comprehensively
by Hugo (2008). This paper investigates issues with demographic change and other key factors related to the desirability of a science or
mathematics academic career within Australian universities. It draws on the findings of a research project undertaken in 2008
for the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. The findings show that while demographic issues are not
as dire for science academics compared to the entire sector, issues relating to tenure, workload and retaining young science
academics in Australia are a threat to the long-term sustainability of science faculties in Australian universities. 相似文献

Beginning teachers are confronted with many issues as they begin their teaching careers, issues, such as classroom management, individual differences, behaviour problems, dealing with parents, and so on. Many beginning teachers take professional development seminars in an attempt to deal with these and other issues. Professional development seminars, however, may not address the specific issues faced by beginning teachers but rather focus on approaches that are more global. In this paper, we argue that the best approach to professional development is through a collaborative action research model. By extending the partnerships established between student teachers, mentor teachers and university supervisors during student teaching into the beginning teachers' career, many of the everyday problems can be confronted within a supportive network. Several recommendations are offered for beginning and maintaining productive CAR relationships. 相似文献

This paper discusses four issues emerging from the papers that make up the special edition. These are considered key issues as researchers further investigate the influence of societal culture on educational administration and leadership. The four selected issues target the definition of societal culture; possible relationships between organizational culture, personality and societal culture; the interface between school leadership, educational policy and societal culture; and some of the limitations of Hofstede's framework for guiding the study of cultural influence in educational administration. This article stems from fieldwork for a series of short external summative evaluations of environmental education projects in developing countries, and distills from these experiences some cultural issues, constraints and differences that either confront, or are created by western evaluators in the developing world. The assumption is that the range of cultural issues, differences and constraints discussed here are either absent from, or are present to a markedly different degree, in western evaluation environments. The paper concludes by suggesting some revisions to evaluative methodology as a contribution to resolving some of the issues. 相似文献

Abstract This article examines copyright issues related to online course development and delivery. An overview and brief history of copyright law is presented, with attention to the ways in which various technologies have shaped modern interpretations of copyright law. Examples of recent lawsuits and several case studies provide a context for examination of fair use issues and liability for online copyright infringement. Finally, some helpful questions are presented on topics such as process issues, institutional policies, software and licensing, copyright issues, and other alternatives.
