From the theoretical perspectives of communication accommodation and intergroup contact, this study examined South Korean young adults’ (N?=?301) perceptions of their communication experiences with a frequently-contacted grandparent, as well as attitudes toward older adults and own aging. Findings from structural equation modeling indicated that the participants’ attitudes towards older adults were positively predicted by contact frequency with the grandparent and negatively predicted by perceptions of the grandparent’s non-accommodative communication. Analyses of indirect effects revealed that young adults’ intergroup anxiety explained these associations. Although the direct effects of contact frequency and the grandparent’s non-accommodation on attitudes toward own aging were nonsignificant, the indirect effects through intergroup anxiety were significant. Moderation analysis indicated that these direct and indirect associations between non-accommodation and aging attitudes were significant only when age salience was low – a finding contrary to existing theory and research. Results are discussed in terms of intergenerational communication and culture, and theories of intergroup contact.  相似文献

Consumer health information studies in library and information science (LIS) are typically not grounded within a theoretical framework. This article explains the importance of theory to LIS research in general, and the specific value of using theories from other disciplines to study consumers' health information-seeking behavior. The argument is supported with two examples: Miller's psychological theory of blunting and monitoring behavior and Granovetter's sociological theory of the strength of weak ties. These theories can be applied by practitioner-researchers to investigate a variety of research problems.  相似文献

This article argues the need for a theory of the media firm. Universal theories of management and context-dependent contingency theories of management control are identified. Other theoretical approaches to media organizations are reviewed: media management, theories of not-for-profit organizations, and theories of political management. The contribution to the theory of the media firm by 2 French scientists is analyzed-Bourdieu and Debray. This article concludes that a theory of the public service media firm needs to use several building blocks, some with relatively well-known sources, some with more recent origins. Avenues for further research are indicated, which may add angles to the development of a theory of managment in the public service media firm.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to validate a template for the instruction of interpersonal communication. Two dimensions emerged that characterize the study of communication: a theory—application dimension and a communication—relationships dimension. These anchors serve as the foundation for the Interpersonal Communication Template. Juxtaposing these two dimensions yields a four‐quadrant template featuring: theory—communication; theory—relationships; application—communication; application—relationships. Journal articles were categorized within the four quadrants. Five hundred and seventy two articles were reviewed, resulting in the identification of 998 interpersonal communication theories, constructs, and contexts. The theories, constructs, and contexts were then collapsed into 120 interpersonal communication topics. To derive the interpersonal communication topics, the co‐coders utilized the constant comparative method (i.e., analytic induction) (Glaser & Strauss, 1967). The organization of the 120 topics within the communication—relationships and theory—application dimensions provides an illustration of the field utilizing the Interpersonal Communication Template as an organizing mechanism. Implications of the template for research and instruction of interpersonal communication are discussed.  相似文献

This article uses the narratives of the popular films The Matrix, Matrix: Reloaded, and Matrix: Revolutions as a lens through which to discuss the problems of the real and human agency in contemporary critical theory. Alongside a reading of the films’ invocations of social theory, the article describes parallel academic theories whose strongest structuralist and poststructuralist manifestations abandon conceptions of the real and willful human agency. In a field whose pessimistic narrative of Marxism often begins with anti-humanist structuralism, classical Marxist discourse theories offer a viable standpoint-based concept of reality upon which to found solidaristic human action.  相似文献

Brand equity theory asserts that the most powerful and enduring consumer-based brand associations are those that deal with intangible or abstract characteristics of a product rather than its functional or utilitarian attributes. In addition, strong brands evoke from consumers associations that are differentiated readily from direct competitors. This study explores the feasibility of using a free association methodology to capture and differentiate systematically abstract media brand associations. Using 3 24-hr cable news networks as an exploratory case study, the findings were encouraging, prompting the recommendation that such a technique can be a useful diagnostic tool for evaluating 1 aspect of media brand equity.  相似文献

The rise of the librarian's role in teaching information literacy competencies and assessing student learning outcomes requires that instruction librarians be cognizant of and competent in a broad array of teaching and assessment skills. A review of the literature shows that, while instruction librarians are proactive in improving their level of expertise, they also express the need to have training and experience during their graduate programs. This article utilizes a case-study approach to propose a model of instruction librarian education. The authors, recent graduates from the University of Hawai'i Library and Information Science Program, analyze the effect of their experiences in a semester-long teaching practicum and a formal graduate level course in instructional methodology. It is proposed that future instruction librarians be provided opportunities for extended teaching practicums combined with coursework in instructional theory during their Library and Information Science program.  相似文献

采用系统综述方法对获取的69篇北美情报学理论文献进行开放式编码和进一步的逻辑分析,系统地概括北美情报学理论近20年的研究现状和最新进展。研究表明:①北美情报学理论的研究由相互关联的7个维度构成,这些维度是情报学的基本概念、跨学科理论的引入、情报学哲学理论、情报学研究领域、情报学理论框架、情报学发展、情报学学科特征。②北美情报学理论的优点是理论体系完善、多元性哲学理论共存和研究方法存在思辨与实证相结合。③北美情报学理论的局限性在于多元哲学理论间缺乏整体性分析、持续性研究欠缺和理论框架主题成果不多。  相似文献

本文以已有研究揭示的农村居民信息劣势以及现有理论对这一劣势的解释局限为背景,试图通过对我国农民信息获取机会的跨历史时期(历时性)和跨领域考察,发展现有信息不平等理论。按照结构分析的思路,本文以相关历史研究成果、统计资料和政策文本为依据,考察了新中国成立以来,农民信息获取机会的变化及其与已知的结构性因素的关联,显示了已知结构性因素无法解释的变化和差异。研究发现,现有理论可以解释城乡在可比指标上的差距,但很难解释农村不同信息设施/服务/资源间的内部差异及时间序列上的变异;要理解这些差异,需要把国家及其构建的权力关系和市场架构作为影响农民信息获取机会的核心因素。本研究根据这一发现并借鉴O'Connar的新国家理论重新阐释了我国农民的信息劣势。  相似文献

Whereas ethnic humor scholars purport that groups disparaged through stereotypes derive enjoyment through a sense of connection and identification, few studies examined out-group members' enjoyment experience of the same disparaging content. The present study examines predictors of Whites' enjoyment of stereotyped entertainment when Blacks and Whites are the targets of humor. Integrating critical race theory, entertainment theories, and empirical methodology, this study examines levels of White racial identity as predictors of stereotyped enjoyment. Findings reveal that cultural competence is crucial to digesting racial humor and useful to cultivating cultural cohesion. Further, this article argues for an expansion of enjoyment theories to consider affiliation.  相似文献

20世纪70年代,在信息技术迅速发展和信息资源日益重要的背景下,信息素养概念产生。随后,美国图书馆界率先将书目指导业务转型为信息素养教育,信息素养也成为图书馆情报学的重要研究领域。本文主要依据国外信息素养领域文献及其他相关文献,对信息素养概念、理论、实践的演进进行了比较全面的分析和总结,旨在为国内同仁从全局角度理解国外信息素养领域的各种变化,提供线索和洞见。研究发现:国外信息素养领域对早期信息素养概念进行了四种不同性质的修正及两次颠覆性改变,引进和发展了多种相关理论,包括各种流派的建构主义学习理论、各种批判理论和实践理论,实施了不同路径的信息素养教育实践;这些相互影响的发展变化导致了三种信息素养范式的出现:普适技能范式、情境化能力范式和嵌入实践范式。通过对已有范式的反思,本文提出未来信息素养研究和实践应将培养持久的信息获取利用习惯纳入考量范围。  相似文献

Play provides an opportunity for students to learn information and concepts in an active format while facilitating different ways of learning. This puzzle activity is designed to increase student engagement, leverage different learning styles, help students make connections in communication theories, and enhance memory of important communication concepts. As an active learning exercise, play requires students to coordinate behaviors and participate in the learning process differently than through traditional lecture formats. Considering the information on active learning strategies, this activity involves using puzzle pieces labeled with theory components to help students learn each theory term and better understand how the terms work together to form the theory.

Courses: This single-class activity is appropriate for courses across the communication curriculum and is particularly well suited for classes with multi-part concepts and/or theories, including communication theory, organizational communication, interpersonal communication, persuasion, conflict communication, and the public-speaking/basic course, among others.

Objective: As a result of participating in this single-class activity, students will demonstrate understanding of key theoretical terms/concepts and how those concepts work together to inform communication theory. Further, students will work together in teams to bring in outside examples of the theory in action and practice explaining the concepts to their classmates to enhance learning and long-term memory of class concepts.  相似文献

情境学习理论是近30年来有关学习的重要理论之一,也是学习科学的核心理论基础。本文回顾了情境学习理论的产生背景,探讨了基本概念及其知识观、学习观与评价观,分析了抛锚式学习、认知学徒制、情境教学这三种基于情境学习理论的代表性教学设计模式,最后提出了博物馆场景中的三种情境类别:实物情境、时空情境和实践情境,并总结了情境学习理论应用于博物馆学习设计的五个维度:激发情境兴趣;提供进入真实实践的机会;促进协作与协商;搭建学习脚手架;鼓励观念呈现与清晰表述。  相似文献

The use of humor was an important aspect of Ronald Reagan's rhetorical appeal. Three major theories of humor have been suggested in the development of the literature: the relief theory, involving emotional release of tension; the incongruity theory, where the cognitive functioning reacts to unexpected input; and the superiority theory, which holds that humor results from feeling superior to others, who may be considered disobedient or somehow “wrong.” The application of the theories to Reagan's humor shows how he used humor to criticize authority without being perceived as too harsh or negative, as well as to promote positive feelings from his audiences.  相似文献

[目的/意义]理论作为科学研究的基础,在科研成果中有着不可取代的作用,统计分析我国图书馆学博士学位论文中理论应用情况,对揭示当前图书馆学研究中的理论应用概貌及构建图书馆学学科理论体系具有重要的理论和实践意义。[方法/过程]以我国图书馆学博士学位论文为样本进行理论抽取,采用内容分析、信息计量以及可视化分析方法对理论应用的频次、理论与研究主题的关联以及理论来源学科等进行多角度统计分析。[结果/结论]博士学位论文中引入的理论种类繁多,学科交叉性强;理论名称使用不规范,同种理论使用多种理论名称;博士学位论文中引入理论的应用层次不高。图书馆学研究需注重基础理论的研究;理论应用具有较强的时代特征;信息科学相关学科将在图书馆学研究中起主导作用。  相似文献

信息服务系统是由馆藏资源、基础设施、业务与服务、人员(职工和用户)和管理等5部分组成的开放的人工系统,在一定的假设条件下,可以看成是具有耗散结构特征的热力学系统,按照普里戈津(I. Prigogine)创立的耗散结构热力学理论,分析阐述了它的运作,并结合案例进行了讨论.指出,整合、共建共享信息资源、提高员工素质、改善基础设施、改进服务和方便用户等是向系统输入负熵流,促使系统呈"螺旋式上升进程"模式向结构优化和运作有序的方向发展.  相似文献
