only lies in its deep theme and striking arrangement of events,but also in her accurate and vivid language.In order to study the differences between English and Chinese,This thesis is focused on two Chinese versions of Whuthering Heights in the light of contrastive linguistics.The detailed version comparison consists of two parts: the comparison between two Chinese versions in lexicology and syntax.After comparing two versions,the author noted that both Yang and Lu still commit some mistakes because of ignorance of linguistic and cultural differences between English and Chinese and in view of this mistakes,the paper offers some revised translation texts for reference only.The author hopes that the comparison results may be beneficial to cross-culture communication and English learning. 相似文献

The two English versions of Lu Xun’s stories, translated by Julia Lovell and the Rangs, are to be studied from the ecotranslatological perspective. A comparative study of the two English versions is made to figure out how the two translators linguistically and culturally make adaptive selections in the process of translation of Lu Xun’s stories—In other words, how the eco-environment has greatly influenced the two translators’ decisions to make adaptations and choices in linguistic and cultural aspects.The thesis discovers that the eco-environment has greatly influenced the process of translating Lu Xun’s stories into English and eco-translatology is feasible to analyze the two translations, that both the Yangs and Lovell have offered successful translations by making adaptive selections and selective transformations. Therefore, neither of the two translations is superior or inferior to one another in different translational eco- environments. Hopefully, the thesis may enrich current researches on the Yang’s and Lovell’s translations and may be useful for the further study of applying eco-translatology to studies on other translators and their works. 相似文献

Many researchers and the International Test Commission＇s （Hambleton, 2005） caution against treating scores from different language versions of a test as equivalent, without conducting empirical research to verify such equivalence. In this study, we evaluated the equivalence of English and Malay versions of a 9^th-grade math test administered in Malaysia by conducting several statistical analyses. All analyses were conducted on data from a large sample of English-Malay bilingual students who took both versions of the exam. First, we conducted two equating analyses---one based on classical test theory and another based on item response theory （IRT）. Then differential item functioning analyses （DIF） were performed to see if any items functioned differentially across their English and Malay versions. The DIF results flagged 7 items for statistically significant DIF, but only one had a non-negligible effect size. We then conducted another equating analysis dropping the DIF items. The equating results suggested an adjustment of 1 or 2 points, depending on the mathematics achievement levels. The results indicate that bilingual examinees can be useful for evaluating different language versions of a test and adjusting for differences in difficulty across test forms due to translation. 相似文献
