Linguistics is a necessary course for English-majors because it plays an important role in second language learning, teaching and research. This paper intends to analyze and explore teachers’ roles in the course of linguistics from the following aspects: as an explainer, as an activator, as a co-learner, as a question-finder and as an enabler. Some examples are taken to show how to make use of comparison, contrast, instance, discussion, and practice for classroom management. In an attempt to understand different cultures in the use of idioms which related to animals,this study collected,compared,and analyzed Chinese and English idioms on"马"and"horse"by references to a large number of dictionaries.The results show that in Chinese,the idioms on horse has the following features:above all,it covers evenly in commendatory,neutral,and derogatory senses;more specifically,it has a direct link to war in the commendatory sense while in neutral and derogatory senses,its references have been broadened;another common phenomenon is that horses in Chinese idioms are usually a large collection.However,English idioms in the use of horse favors on the derogatory sense since they focus more on the nature of horse-stubborn,arrogant,and even condescending.If horses are praised,they mostly refer to the talented people rather than any other things.The similarities and differences in the use of"马"and"horse"help to probe into the color of culture between eastern and western countries. 相似文献

Assessment is central to any educational process. Number Right （NR） scoring method is a conventional scoring method for multiple choice items, where students need to pick one option as the correct answer. One point is awarded for the correct response and zero for any other responses. However, it has been heavily criticized for guessing and failure to credit partial knowledge. Despite continued research in scoring methods, conventional NR scoring method remains the most popular and widely used procedure. Thus, the problem of crediting partial knowledge and guessing still exist. In addition, the current assessment practices do not take students＇ misconceptions into consideration. Thus, there is a need to propose a new scoring method that is able to minimize guessing, credit partial knowledge, yet able to diagnose misconceptions. This study proposed the development of a Computer-Adaptive Assessment Software （CAAS） for MC items using the new Number Right Elimination Testing （NRET） which take into consideration these three elements. Whether it is business English or business in English has remained a discrepancy for both linguists and learners.
