Mathematics teaching is a complex process being influenced by several factors. Mathematics teachers play crucially important role in the process. Therefore, their classroom practices can influence students' learning. The purpose of the present study was to examine Turkish students' perceptions of their mathematics teachers' classroom practices. A 5-point likert-type scale developed by the author was used for data collection. Exploratory factor analysis showed 3 construct, all of which together explain the 62.23% of the total variance. Cronbach's alpha correlation coefficient of the instrument was found 0.76. The sample of the study constituted a total number of 1,024, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students selected randomly from 12 primary schools in the different districts of Sivas, Turkey. It seems clear from the results of the study that, there are no grade level differences in the students' perceptions of the entire scale and its sub-factors.  相似文献

In English classroom of higher vocational colleges,there exist two essential factors:teachers’reflective consciousness and students’reflective consciousness.The former is teachers’awareness of learning activities and effect,and it contains the teacher’s reflections on the classroom practice,the presentation of learning tasks,the participation of students and the interaction between teachers and students in the classroom.The latter refers to students’awareness of self-improvement and the growing process.It focuses on the self-realization of students and their professional ability,method ability and social ability.The two factors are interactive to each other;in the interaction,the former is dominated,and the latter is strongly influenced;through the interaction,a harmonious classroom is constructed so as to achieve the effective teaching.  相似文献

Cooperative learning emerging as the leading new approach to classroom instruction abroad over the past decades has been studied by many researchers from all aspects.This paper mainly focuses on the basics of cooperative learning and tries to answer the question that if the use of cooperative learning produce higher achievement than the traditional methods in college English reading class through experimental study.The analysis contributes to better college English teaching and learning.A conclusion is drawn that cooperative learning is very effective in improving college students reading ability.  相似文献

The Orff music method has been internationally practiced and recognized as one of the leading music methods in the past fifty years. The success of this approach is that this method encourages all students participating in the designed music activities in the music class to interact with the teacher and other classmates using the Orff approach rather than the traditional one-way music learning approach in the traditional music classroom in Asia. While the children are situated within an environment where music activities and bodily movements are stimulated, the children's aesthetic music knowledge can be influenced significantly (Carlson, 1990). In this study, there were a total number of 180 3rd graders from three elementary schools in Taiwan who participated in this research. The control group which consisted of three classes with a total number of 90 students was the class using the traditional music method taught by a regular classroom teacher, while the experimental group, which consisted of another three classes with a total number of 90 students, was the class taught using the Orff music method by the researcher. The study was controlled in the sense that the six music classes were ascertained to be of equal ability in their understanding of music before the experimental factor was applied. As well, there were no significant differences in age or mental capacity, while the difference in genders was only minimal. The results of this research revealed that not only did the students who had the Orff music method training perform better than the traditional music method on both melodic patterns dictation and music reading tests, but the Orff training also helped the experimental students to have a solid understanding of rhythmic structures and basic music knowledge.  相似文献

We designed and used a series of activities (named activities to teaching electric field (ATEF)) based on the Physics by Inquiry (PBI) strategy to teaching the electric field concept with university students. We used a concentration factor tool to assess the effectiveness of those activities used during three weeks of instruction. Results indicate that students who had traditional teaching obtained a very tiny gain (less than 1%); concentration factors indicate that most of their responses fall into a random area, which is not favorable. On the other hand, the experimental group using our activities had greater gains (〉 10%) than the control group. Concentration factors showed that after instruction, students' mental models changed toward a favorable pattern about comprehension of electric field concept and Coulomb's law. A hypothesis test of two samples indicated that there is a significant difference between both traditional teaching and ATEF based on PBI.  相似文献

There are three student-centered approaches introduced in this essay. The first one focuses on the design of syllabuses that relate specifically to an analysis of students’needs. The second one is about the provision of classroom activities that encourage more student participation. Last one is concerned with allowing students a greater role in the management of their learning, by providing opportunities for student choice in the method and scope of study . It is argued that the lack of consensus on what constitutes an inquiry-based approach makes the generalization about it difficult, because the concept is relatively unspecific and vague. This problem can partially be solved by constructing a set of activities promoted by inquiry, thus defining the inquiry objectives for classroom and laboratory teaching. Five high school and college Mexican teachers' PICK (pedagogical inquiry/content knowledge) was documented and assessed by means of Loughran, Mulhall and Berry's (2004) l-CoRe (inquiry content representation) developed by the authors through a proposal of a set of seven inquiry activities. They were also interviewed to construct the professional and pedagogical experience repertoires, a second tool by Loughran et al. (2004) to document PICK. It was observed that all teachers interviewed have used inquiry to modify their students' way of thinking, mainly through question posing. Some of them employed research as their main tool to promote scientific inquiry but others mentioned the lack of time to do it. It is interesting to notice that in spite of the fact that inquiry is out of the curriculum in M6xico, the teachers make use of it to improve their teaching practice. According to their answers, their actions in the classroom or the lab were classified within the three general approaches expressed by Lederman (2004): implicit, historical and explicit. It is concluded that a given teacher cannot be classified exclusively in one of them, because in his/her activities one general approach overlaps the others. The authors conclude that Lederman's classification has to be taken into account as an orientation to characterize a given activity of one teacher, even though the same teacher may use another activity characterized by other general approach. This paper makes a study of error analysis and its implementation in the EFL (English as Foreign Language) classroom teaching. It starts by giving a systematic review of the concepts and theories concerning EA (Error Analysis), the various reasons causing errors are comprehensively explored. When examined carefully, it is seen that there is not an available and detailed cttrriculum designed for the aim of foreign language teaching with integrated cultural items of the target language in the programs of the schools under authority of the Ministry of Education and Turkish higher education institutions. In recent years, the specialists have an agreement on the issue that foreign language instruction should be carried out by the means of target language's history, literature, geography and also its social characteristics. The idiom "it's raining cats and dogs" can be misinterpreted by a Turkish student without the knowledge of this idiom's story in English history as "Cats and dogs are pouring down from the sky". An important French architectural building "Saint Mary Cathedral, Notre Dame de Paris" can be misunderstood as "Our Parisian Woman" by a student who is unfamiliar with French culture. Both examples show that encountered foreign words and phrases can be misunderstood and mostly these words are perceived and interpreted according to learners' own cultural figures. The aims of this study are to show the significance of culture-based foreign language courses and to make a contribution to the literature by regarding the views of researchers beheving that culture and language are inseparable concepts. In this context, Erzincan University French Language Teaching Department students' opinions on the relation between culture and language learning were received with the application of qualitative structured written response method. Then, document analysis of written comments was evaluated. Consequently, the analysis on the participants' written comments showed that a culture integrated foreign language course can make positive contributions to students' learning, language learning process and learning environment.  相似文献

This study was initiated by dramatic increase of international migration for educational purpose. The paper aims to investigate the reasons behind Chinesel students’ choice of studying in the UK from two different aspects of ’push’ factors and ’pull’ factors.The study was carried out among Chinese students studying in the university of Bristol, Cardiff University the University of Edinburgh. Both questionnaire and interview were used in data collection. The general findings showed that students’ study destination choice was influenced by ’push’ factors from students’ home country and ’pull’ factors from the host country.  相似文献

Role-play is recommended as a useful method to solve the problem of oral English teaching. The public speech skill consists of cultural virtue,knowledge accumulation,psychological quality,logical thinking,thinking capacity and language expression.It is a kind of art that speakers achieve the success through their own sound.In dealing with various English speeches,Chinese students are always influenced by the Chinese way of speech delivery,adopting the style of it,especially its tone of finality.After collecting,arranging and learning relevant material,I attaches great importance to the tone of finality in famous English speeches.They show some rules and regulations,such as the return to the middle pitch,the unstable change of stress and the final rising and falling tone.This paper begins with a brief introduction to what the tone of finality is and three famous English speeches in different areas are provided as study cases with the PRAAT pictures and their relevant analysis.And then the comparison will be made among these three speeches from aspects of pitch,length and weight,in the hope of concluding similarities in the tone of finality of these three cases.  相似文献

In the process of classroom education, setting questions in class is an important teaching method, which is used in the whole teaching activity and acts as the link between the thoughts of teachers and students. Hence, creating a wisdom class and using according questions to aid the class are of great significance to both students and teachers. In this paper, 40 elementary students from the 9th grade and 10 of their teachers were studied and the result showed that learning requirements facing to the whole class and students' learning beliefs are essential principles, and questions should be set by having an exhaustive understanding of the textbook, giving previous homework, creating a thinking atmosphere, and setting a proper difficulty for the students. The proper time to set questions is when the old knowledge and new knowledge of the student conflict in the awareness of the student, when the teacher wants to spread thought, and when the teacher wants to make a conclusion.  相似文献

This study intends to investigate and determine the types of corporal punishment and their frequency used by parents on their primary school age children that are within the context of light, violent and very violent physical aggressive behavior. This research was realized with 151 first, second and third grade pupils at a primary school in Bursa. The Turkish version of Picture-Card Version for Young Children of the Parent-to-Child Conflict Tactics Scales developed by Straus (2002) was used. Between 1.5% and 22.1% of the children reported that their parents "Sometimes" and "Often" used light physical aggressive behaviors. 30.3% of the students reported that their parents "Sometimes" and 7.7% of parents "Often" inflicted violent physical aggressive behaviors. 7.7% of the students reported that their parents "Often" and 34.9% of parents "Sometimes" inflicted very violent physical aggressive behaviors. It is expected that the findings of this study will raise the awareness of school stuff and educationalists.  相似文献

The DIIA (Diploma in Investment Analysis) students from the FBM (Faculty of Business Management) were required to undertake several MOF (Mathematic of Finance) courses. The passing rates for all of the MOF courses were good except for one course. There are many factors for this low passing rate phenomenon for this particular MOF course. One of the factors is mathematics anxiety as suggested by Richardson in 1971. As a result, this paper is carried out in order to measure the undergraduates' level of mathematics anxiety in general and between genders in this one particular course. The outcome is expected to fill in the gap as study of anxiety in MOF is still lacking. A 30-item MARS (Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale) is adapted and used in this study, because this course is predominant by complex computations. The Ss (samples) of the study are 119 students who undertook this MOF course during the study semester of December 2008 to April 2009 in UiTM (Universiti Teknologi MARA). It is expected that the findings will show that the Ss have a considerably high mean for mathematics anxiety; and female students have a higher mean of mathematics anxiety as compared to their male counterparts. The study confirms the expectation of the researchers. In terms of the final and overall results, it was expected that the passing percentage be dominated by the male students. However, at the end of the study, the overall performance of the female students was much better compared to their male counterparts.  相似文献

Some people are suspicious of oral English learning for they have been accustomed to the old traditional classroom training. This paper discusses some new teaching techniques in oral class, which breaks the traditional teaching methods. If teachers are aware of the advantages of these new methods and put them into practice, then we can create a lively and natural atmosphere so that the students will lose their inhibition and learn English happily. The main point of this paper is that the best teaching method can produce the best effect and it should be a combination of some flexible and various approaches rather than only one single teaching method as well as the cooperation of teacher and students.  相似文献
