This case study presents the revision of an upper-division one-shot instruction session to include an online tutorial that introduces students to business information sources prior to the library session. In order to complete the assignment and prepare for the library session, students are prompted to find specific information using the given resource, and then consider questions regarding the information retrieved. Students in a 3000-level business writing class responded positively to the activity while providing a good amount of material to inform further iterations of the assignment. 相似文献

This article presents a five-year strategic plan for Russell Library, the principal public library for Middletown, Connecticut. The goal of the plan is to make Russell Library “the Bridge to the Future of Middletown and its citizens.” To accomplish that large goal, the planners focus on three service areas: a broad range of resources, including books, electronic items, and databases; an engaged and supportive staff; and many varied and enlightening experiences for Middletown citizens of all ages. Abstract An exhibition team at the National Museum of the American Indian, working with a visitor studies specialist from the Smithsonian’s Office of Policy and Analysis, used visitor studies conducted by the entire team during planning for a reinstallation of part of the permanent collection. The studies evolved organically during the exhibition planning as questions and hypotheses arose among the team. The answers led to further studies. This research model brought team members together in a spirit of inquiry and a process of discovery, changed their perceptions of themselves and their subjects, and suggested a new typology of visitors. 相似文献

A total of 361 college students recalled situations when they were the targets of verbally aggressive messages. Results indicated that message source predicted perceived relational harm better than the trait variable of verbal aggressiveness. Greater relational harm was perceived from romantic partners and short-term acquaintances. Males were higher in verbal aggressiveness. Targets’ levels of trait verbal destructiveness predicted which coping strategy each reported, and which coping strategy they chose predicted perceived relational harm. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe tribal codes and laws managing the traditional knowledge system of the Karuk people have been passed on to us by the ikxaréeyav, or Spirit People. Regulated through access restrictions and protocols, we have been able to preserve information about all aspects of Karuk life for thousands of years. Yet over the past 160 years, this system has remained unacknowledged by the legal frameworks of Euro-America. Since 2012, however, the Karuk Tribe has been developing the Sípnuuk Digital Library, Archives, and Museum, providing self-representative and culturally appropriate access to, control over, and preservation of Karuk cultural heritage. 相似文献

This investigation compared social judgment theory and the construct self‐monitoring as explanations of conformity behavior in small groups. Highly ego‐involved discussants communicated with greater emotionality and dominance and with less reasonableness than their low ego‐involved counterparts; but, the impact of ego‐involvement was partially mediated by self‐monitoring. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThere is limited literature on hospital archives projects. Hospitals understandably have a strong focus on patient care, but there is still a critical need to keep institutional archives. Among their many uses, institutional archives preserve corporate memory, provide evidence of interactions with community, and assist in contemporary decision making. This column describes a university-hospital partnership to undertake a one-year project to preserve, detail, and digitize ten boxes, or approximately 3.8 meters, of materials dating from 1980 to 2006. This project serves as a model for other hospital or health care facilities wanting to preserve and more actively engage with their archival collections. 相似文献

At the Ohio State University, a health sciences librarian is the co-instructor in a required information competencies course for first-year undergraduate students in the Honors Biomedical Science Major. This article discusses the creation and development of the credit-bearing, in-person course from the curriculum planning phase in 2005 to present. Improvements to the course are described by year. Student feedback, student performance, and reflection by the co-instructors influenced the course improvements, including changes in content, delivery, student feedback mechanisms, and assessment of student learning. The course teaches students to access, organize, read, and analyze the biomedical research literature. 相似文献
