Head of the Information Literacy Program, Qatar University, Doha, QatarOver the last twenty years, the State of Qatar has witnessed colossal developments in its various sectors such as economy, society, technology, and education. The Supreme Educational Council along with the Ministry of Education worked to enhance the status of the educational sector; there has been a rise in the number of local and international schools. The Qatar Foundation implemented partnership programs with prestigious universities from the USA, UK, and France. The public sector, through its Qatar University Campus, attracted local and international students. This article highlights the current state of libraries in Qatar by sectors, and provides a general overview of their role and nature, and shares some statistical data. The article also analyzes the limitations and challenges, as well as future recommendations. 相似文献

Librarians often act as default copyright experts at their institutions and thus must have an awareness of copyright law and practices. Nevertheless, there is little in the scholarly literature about how well informed librarians are about copyright law. Through a national survey of professional librarians, this study illustrates librarians’ self-perceived familiarity with copyright concepts, interests in training, and sources of support for copyright questions. The results will be of interest to library directors and library and information science (LIS) faculty and could inform curricular decisions in LIS schools and may also be applied to local professional development initiatives for librarians. 相似文献

The Kenya National Library Service (KNLS) is responsible for providing services through its library network across the country. “The Specialist” addresses the administration of special libraries, however, identifying the administrator of a small special library is problematic. In these small libraries within organizations, the librarian often works alone and the library is overseen by a non-librarian manager. In these cases, it is not as easy to identify or define the library's administrator as it would be in a public or academic library, or even a larger special library. This column introduces a model where the administration of small special libraries is a collaboration between librarians and non-librarian managers. In this model, information professionals exercise hidden leadership and management skills without leading a staff or possessing a management title. The column also suggests ways information professionals without explicit management responsibilities in the workplace can develop these skills and apply them in their jobs. 相似文献

This column uses the occasion of James Matarazzo and Toby Pearlstein receiving the 2016 John Cotton Dana Award from the Special Libraries Association to reflect on their unique partnership, which has lasted decades and resulted in a wealth of research results and tools for corporate librarians. Despite the tools available to them to measure and demonstrate their value, however, special libraries continue to face closures, downsizing, and increasing pressure to do more with less. Today, special libraries are not alone in feeling this pressure, as even the academic libraries that have been so central to campus life find their place questioned. As Matarazzo and Pearlstein formed the unlikely yet lasting partnership of scholar and practitioner, perhaps academic libraries and non-academic special libraries can join forces to effectively leverage their collective experience and knowledge in demonstrating their worth to stakeholders. 相似文献
