Language teaching approaches are always changing according to social needs for various talents and there is no exception for Communicative Language Teaching(CLT).From 1960s,people become more and more interested in communicative function of languages.Communicative Competence,Functional Linguistics,Speech Act Theory and related learning theories help the CLT form the teaching aim of cultivating students’communicative ability.Scholars start to regard language communicative competence as the final teaching purpose.This article will explore CLT in terms of language teaching views,advantages and disadvantages.What is more,it comes to the following conclusions:there exists no language teaching approach that is absolutely superior,including CLT.Language teachers should use different approaches flexibly so as to reach the teaching aim.  相似文献

Language and culture are closely related with each other: language is the carrier and a fundamental part of culture, while culture has an intrinsic and indispensable impact on language and is also reflected in language. So if in the language learning and teaching, attention is only paid to the linguistic forms but the relationship between language and culture is ignored, then the learner’s linguistic ability will not be equivalent to his or her social and cultural communication competence. Especially in the times of globalization with increasing transna tional and cross-cultural communication, the knowledge of cultural background is the must prerequisite for not only the avoidance of cul tural "conflict" but the success of communication. Based on the studies of several cross-cultural communication cases and the analysis of the relationship between language and culture, including the famous Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, this paper is aimed to analyze the intrinsic and in dispensable relationship between language learning and culture learning.  相似文献

Language is used to exchange information,but it means far more than that.It is also employed to establish and maintain social relationships.Language has varieties.Only by acquiring the variety of language a speech community adopts can a person be accepted and establish a target social identity.The movie My Fair Lady is a good illustration to this point,and Eliza’s experiences of transforming from a poor flower girl to a charming"princess"are cited in this paper.Both linguistic features like phonology,grammar,syntax and lexicon,and paralinguistic characteristics like pitch,volume,intonation,manners and topics will altogether contribute to the construction of a social identity.The ultimate goal is to cultivate people’s awareness of social identity and be conscious to speak.  相似文献

This essay deals with the long controversial issue of whether transfer of native language has a major or minor role in the second language acquisition.Based on a brief introduction of all the literature regarding the language transfer in SLA and investigated through a deeper look into the main theories on the role of native language,the essay points out that the role of transfer of NL is evidently far from being as definite or dominant as it is supposed to be.The essay asserts that language universals but not the NL facts were found to play the leading role in the transfer.It holds that Universal Grammars are functioning in determining where language transfer occurs,and thus comes to its conclusion that the role of transfer from NL is inferior to that of UG in SLA,which explains why among second language learners there has been a remarkable common experience that language learners in the early stages will produce in the target language linguistic forms which can be related neither to their mother tongue nor to the target language.  相似文献

Though China’s present situation in English language teaching is quite favorable,some problems are still very outstanding.It seems that the communicative competence of Chinese students is not that satisfactory.The Communicative Language Teaching(CLT) approach,which regards"communicative competence"as the goal of language teaching,is becoming more and more popular in China’s English language teaching.This paper shows that the CLT approach does work in improving students’ communicative competence to some degree,through reviewing relevant literature on this approach.However,it is not a panacea to solve all the problems occurring in students’ communicative competence for it also has some weak points.Several suggestions were proposed to enhance students’ grammatical competence as well as the communicative block due to cultural differences.It is also advisable for teachers to be as flexible as possible in choosing the teaching techniques and adding whichever input needed to effectively achieve the main goal of making students both grammatically accurate and communicatively proficient.  相似文献

The euphemism is a phenomenon of language variation with different language varieties. And this phenomenon is closely related with social context. Register, as a concrete representation of context, especially its tenor of discourse, makes great influence on what kind of euphemism and what level of euphemism people will use to achieve effective communication. Universal Grammar,based on the mentalism,is the central part in Chomsky’s Generative Grammar.It considers language ac quisition in terms of the inner language faculty.It is of great help in first language acquisition(FLA) and explains reasonably many practical problems.As for the relationship between Universal Grammar and Second Language Acquisition(SLA),there is no definite conclusion un til now.The main hypotheses are no-access,direct-access and indirect-access.Interlanguage,as a unique language system,is an interim language between native language and target language.Therefore,it involves the characteristics of the native language and of the target one.This paper attempts to investigate the relationship between UG and SLA based on the interpretation of the usage of UG in FLA,and then to discuss the accessibility of UG to the Interlanguage development.  相似文献

Different languages are unable to be separated from their specific social culture backgrounds. Vocabulary is language’s subsystem. English metaphor is an important part of vocabulary; it belongs to the semantic motivation of English lexicology. The social culture of a language reflects more from its linguistic metaphor. Metaphor is a significant language phenomenon that is closely linked with its culture. Much of the deep culture of a language (such as view of life, view of value, etc.) is instantiated and transmitted through the metaphors people use on the daily basis. A specific application of task-based learning in teaching vocabulary to young learners and a complete task cycle using role play to present vocabulary in China’s private language school would be described in the study. The participants aged between 7 and 9 are thought to be starters according to their language competence in Common European Framework of Reference for language. The rationale for stages in the task cycle will be fully explored with reference to Piaget and Vygotsky’s theory in teaching young learners. The advantages of the adoption of TBL with young learners will be illustrated and some possible problems in implementing TBL in China, a representative country of Confucian-heritage culture would also be discussed in the paper. The study indicates that young learners in China are quite welcome this new approach in their English classes, but the targeted learners’ age and background information need to be taken into consideration when actually implement this approach.  相似文献
