Scarlett and Bai Liusu,the protagonists of American literary classic Gone with the Wind and Chinese modern literary work Love in a Fallen City,are two distinct women images in the history of world literature.Their female consciousness can be discovered throughout both works.This paper attempts to make a comparative study between the two heroines,by analyzing their female consciousness which is primarily expressed in the pursuit of love,money and independence,as well as their personalities and destiny.The study discovers that although Scarlett and Bai Liusu experience similar awakening process,their endings are different.The democratic Western culture allows Scarlett to grow up into a rebellious new woman;by contrast,thousands of years of Chinese feudal society decide that Bai Liusu’s female consciousness is not thorough enough. 相似文献

In Pangs of Love by David Wong Louie, the identity of Chinese immigrants in America is as fluid and unstable as the perfume Musk 838. The Chinese-born mom harbors deep love for China. Though living in America for forty years, she is still persisting in the Chinese tradition while her American-born sons, on the contrary, are trying to integrate into American life, seemingly ignoring the Chinese origin. By looking at the ideological difference under the Chinese and American historical context, this paper aims to reveal that translating the past, old, what’s Chinese into something meaningful to the present, the new and the reality makes it possible that the first-generation integrates into American culture and the second-generation understands Chinese tradition. It illuminates the ways for possible transformation and demonstrates the possibility to establish a Chinese-American identity to transcend the pangs for embracing each other. 相似文献

China has entered the era of surplus economy when it is possible for Chinese people to satisfy their material needs. However, since the supply of cultural product is far below the level of its de mand, the people are still in a deficit state in spiritual life. The deficiency in spiritual life is quite dif ferent from that in material life, in the sense that it cannot be overcome by the development of culture industry. The way of satisfying a cultural need is wholly different from that of a material need, thus the substitute of the former with the latter necessarily leads to the alienation of needs. Only when we substitute “preference economics” with “necessary economics” is it possible for us to see the potential ity of transformation from the “bourgeois society” to the “human society”, revealed by Marxian cri tique of political economics, and to set the base for the theoretical innovation of the transformation era. In the study of metaphor, as a branch of the general cognitive science, cognitive linguistics has been walking forward at all times. In recent years, attention has gradually been paid on the metaphor study in the Chinese academic circles, and some domestic scholars have carried out research one after another, mainly through some daily expression, poetry, prose or novel to analyze and demonstrate the similarities and differences of love metaphors in Chinese and western culture. The new exploration of the role of metaphor in poetry and the cognitive mechanism was included, and it gained some achievements. This paper presents pattern formation in generalized cellular automata （GCA） by varying parameters of classic “game of life”. Different dynamic behaviors are classified. The influence of remembrance of dynamic behavior of GCA is also studied. Experiments show the emergence of the self-organizing patterns that is analogous with life forms at the edge of chaos, which consist of certain nontrivial structure and go through periods of growth, maturity and death. We describe these experiments and discuss their potential as alternative way for creating artificial life and generative art, and as a new method for pattern genesis. 相似文献
