Summary The published literature specific to electronic serials cataloging over the decade of the 1990s and the work of CONSER, MARBI, the ALCTS Committee to Study Serials Cataloging, and others were reviewed to identify issues and developments. The proliferation and the changing nature of e-serials were challenges to catalogers throughout the period examined. Policies and procedures were offered by CONSER and its members. Multiple versions, revising AACR2, metadata, and aggregator databases were among the issues actively discussed at the close of the decade. 相似文献

Collaboration between Ulrich's and the National Serials Data Program began more than ten years ago. Today the names have changed but this partnership continues to benefit publishers, libraries, and vendors who provide access to electronic serials. Abstract In February 2002, members of Saint Anselm College Geisel Library's Cataloging Unit started a project to retrospectively catalog the Library's small, but diverse, collection of cartographic materials. The Cataloging Unit of Geisel's Technical Services Department is comprised of two full-time catalogers plus one half-time cataloger. The Library's Government Documents Department (Geisel is a selective, 15% depository), where much of these materials are housed, does not have a dedicated cataloging staff. The collection of approximately 950 titles included topographic series maps, topographic/bathymetric maps (367), CIA country study maps (480), remote sensing image maps (20), hanging wall maps (6), globes (3), political ward maps (40), atlases (21), and monographic maps from the late 19th and early 20th centuries (10). This article describes the planning, requirements and challenges faced by a Baccalaureate College Liberal Arts library performing an inhouse retrospective cataloging project of cartographic materials. 相似文献

ABSTRACT Over the past year and a half, Colorado State University Libraries has used the Program in Cooperative Cataloging's (PCC) core record standard when cataloging non-depository and pre-1976 federal documents. Although the Libraries is not a PCC member, and so not involved in its Bibliographic Record Cooperative Program (BIBCO) it began experimenting with this standard as a means to facilitate a more efficient way of cataloging federal documents. This paper provides background to the Libraries' decision to use the core standard; describes the core cataloging standard, noting especially PCC's emphasis on the importance of the cataloger's judgement in applying the standard; and comments on the Libraries' use and assessment of core cataloging. 相似文献

Some types of publication are viewed by librarians as serials and by publishers as monographs. In the pre-digital environment, cataloging rules and library workflows were developed to manage these publications. The shift to electronic publishing, distribution, and access brings new considerations into play. At Webster University, solo librarians manage libraries on six campuses in Africa, Europe, and Asia. On the home campus in St. Louis, ten librarians at a traditional library serve faculty, staff, and students at metro and military campuses across the U.S., at international campuses, and online. To ensure consistency for users, librarians have constructed a network to communicate and collaborate across borders. The librarians meet on a monthly basis using WebEx software and collaborate asynchronously on instructional projects using LibGuides. Library committees have international librarian representation. The libraries have centralized cataloging and electronic resources at the home campus library. As librarians built an instructional webinar series, they worked together to brainstorm topics and partnered to deliver content to all students. This paper will discuss how this network was built, challenges to communication, and the benefits of tapping into the diversity and expertise of librarians around the world. 相似文献

Prior research indicates that when a bargaining representative is held accountable by a constituency, tough, distributive bargaining is often the result and deadlocks become more probable. This study focuses upon two variables that have been hypothesized to mitigate against such debilitating effects: authority to reach agreements and self‐monitoring. The results confirmed the debilitating effects of accountability. Bargainers held accountable made more extreme initial offers, thought they were perceived to be less cooperative, took more time to negotiate, were more likely to deadlock, and were less satisfied with the outcomes than bargainers not held accountable. Authority interacted with accountability to influence straying from the group's aspiration level on initial and final offers. When accountable, bargainers with authority initially strayed further from the group's position but deviated less on their final offer than bargainers without authority. Delegated authority significantly reduced the number of deadlocks experienced by accountable bargainers but the level of deadlocks remained greater than when accountability was absent. Correlations involving self‐monitoring usually were significant only within the accountability conditions and indicated that high self‐monitors initially strayed less from the group's position but deviated more on their final offer than low self‐monitors. 相似文献

Many libraries have significant backlogs of uncataloged microforms. As attention has shifted toward digitized serials in recent years, unique holdings with high research value may be languishing untapped in the older, often overlooked formats of microfilm and microfiche. Libraries that devote resources to surveying and cataloging hidden collections of microforms greatly facilitate discovery of valuable resources for research. The current effort to survey, organize, process, and catalog more than 10,000 reels of microfilm in the Tamiment Library at New York University has vastly improved access to a multitude of uncommon serials that have been used by researchers, both onsite and via interlibrary loan. 相似文献

OCLC's on-line services began in 1971, but only for monographic cataloging. It was 1974 when serials records were first allowed into OCLC's data base. Then came CONSER in 1975, serials check-in in 1976, and card production for serials cataloging in 1977. The University of Illinois at Urbann-Champaign (UIUC) has gradually increased its use of 0CLC's serials services for preorder searching, precatalog searching, and, most recently, full serials cataloging and card production. But UIUC has not committed itself to the use of OCLC for serials check-in or the planned acquisitions system. It will depend on the alternatives. 相似文献
