This work compares the results of three assessment systems used in two Spanish universities (the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Universidad Católica de Ávila): the traditional system based on final examinations, continuous assessment with periodic tests and a proposed system (specially designed for heterogeneous student bodies) orientated towards motivating students. This third system involved dividing the syllabus into two different parts: a common core assessed by multiple choice tests, and a specialisation assessed by a literature review, the writing of an article and an oral presentation. The latter skills are highly valued by employers. The proposed system led to a greater pass rate than that achieved by students taking similar courses assessed by the more conventional systems. In addition, the results show that involving students in the assessment process increases their participation in their studies and generates a feeling of satisfaction and justice. 相似文献

The Routine Activities Theory suggests that when there is the presence of a motivated offender, a suitable target, and the absence of a capable guardian, crime has the opportunity to occur. Large sporting events accompanied by massive tourists bring these ingredients of crime together. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the crime rates spike in the host cities during the high tourist month of the Super Bowl. Twenty-four months of crime rates on eight types of crimes were obtained for every American city that has hosted the Super Bowl. Panel Data Analysis is used to test the Hypotheses of this study. The findings do not show a spike in crime rates during the month of Super Bowl for any of the crimes examined in this study. It is in the economic interests of all stakeholders to provide a safe and secure venue free of crimes for sports tourists. 相似文献

Transnational migration increasingly impacts economically disadvantaged and culturally marginalized students. Over the last decade, an unprecedented number of Mexican nationals living in the United States have returned to Mexico. Their children may face cultural and linguistic barriers in their ancestral country. This group of students is particularly important to American educators since they may eventually return to the United States. This article reports on the results of a qualitative study of experiences of 12 U.S.-born children of Mexican nationals who are currently living in Mexico. Through a series of semistructured interviews and activities, we learned about the children’s varied experiences. This article reports on a study into how collaborative contexts influence the professional development of an early-career
primary teacher, Julia. We describe the process of change by which Julia manages to make her planning to teach mathematics
more flexible so as to adapt to student difficulties, and we analyse the role that joint reflection plays in promoting this
change. In order to understand the how of this influence, we carried out an analysis of the interactions within the group from Julia’s point of view, following
a dialogical approach to discourse. We believe that it is in and through the interactions that Julia constructs her interpretation
of the opinions, critiques and suggestions expressed. This interpretation conditions the extent of her involvement and moulds
the influence of the context on her professional development. The presence of skilled collaborators proved decisive in promoting

This study addressed the topic of job specifications and school characteristics since there is a shortage of quality AP applicants
in high-stakes accountability environments. It is important to learn about allocation of duties from educational administrators
with on-the-job experience as well as to learn why current APs would consider applying for other AP positions. The purpose
of this study was to investigate the impact of job attributes (instruction, discipline), school level (elementary, middle,
high), and school achievement (in-need-of-assistance, progressing, meets goal) on applicant’s rating of an AP position. This
research study used an experimental design. A main effect for job attributes indicated that instruction was significantly
higher than discipline when attracting assistant principals. Implications for practice and research are discussed. 相似文献
