Hypertension causes complications such as coronary atherosclerosis and thrombosis wherein inflammatory factors play significant
role. In the present study inflammatory molecules such as cell adhesion molecules (CAMs); endothelial (E)-selectin, platelet
(P)-selectin, intercellular CAM-1 (ICAM-1), vascular CAM-1 (VCAM-1) and platelet endothelial CAM-1 (PECAM-1) were analysed
in subjects newly diagnosed with hypertension with no secondary cause against normotensive healthy individuals. In each group
57 subjects were recruited and soluble (s) levels of CAMs were analysed by ELISA. As compared to controls median of sE-selectin
(49.2%, P=0.001), sP-selectin (54.3%, P=0.001), and sICAM-1 (18.9%, P=0.012) were significantly elevated in hypertensive subjects.
Significant negative correlation was observed of sP-selectin (spearman rank correlation coefficient (rs) =−0.345, p=0.027)
and sPECAM-1 (rs =−0.446, p=0.003) with age in hypertension group. Hypertension may increase expression of certain CAMs while
younger hypertensives in addition are also at increased risk of atherothrombosis. 相似文献

Reed-Solomon codes are indeed an elegant illustration of a very practical application of abstract algebra. An interesting
discovery was the fact that Euclid’s algorithm for finding greatest common divisors of polynomials, could be used for decoding
these codes. In this article we explain this connection.

Preeclampsia is a multisystem disorder associated with maternal hypertension, placental abnormalities and adverse fetal outcomes. The various pathways involved in its etiology include endothelial dysfunction, inflammatory milieu, lipid peroxidation and immunological imbalance. The present study was conducted to evaluate the causative and predictive role of nitric oxide, lipid peroxidation end products (MDA) and inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-α) in clinical presentation, severity and fetal outcome in preeclampsia. The study population was divided into 3 groups- Non- pregnant females comprising the control population; G1 and G2 groups included normal pregnant and pregnant females with preeclampsia with 50 patients in each group. Nitric Oxide and MDA levels were found to be highest in the preeclamptic patients as compared to other two groups. ROC curve analysis shows the superiority of the inflammatory markers as determinants of severity of preeclampsia which suggests the emerging role of pro inflammatory markers in the various pathological changes in preeclampsia. TNF-α emerged as the best marker in multivariate analysis and thus, has the potential for being used as a marker for PIH. Our study illustrates the multifactorial etiology of preeclampsia involving oxidative stress, proinflammatory milieu and endothelial dysfunction. 相似文献

This paper challenges constructions of the ‘gendered illiterate Indian villager’ as a homogenous group of people who are empowered through acquiring literacy. I strive to displace homogeneous representations of gendered ‘illiterate’ subjects through ethnographic accounts of diverse people's realities in different villages in Bihar, India. I argue that the circumstance under which a relationship between gendered adult education subjects and adult education programmes gets constructed impinges on notions of: norms, interpreting and translating Others, networks and empowerment within and outside the context of adult education programmes. 相似文献

This paper draws on ethnographic vignettes in an Indian rights-based approach to adult education programmes in order to examine the contestations and negotiations of facilitators in interface situations involving programme capacity building, monitoring and evaluation practice. The paper proposes that making visible the hegemonic nature of relationships between different adult education actors is critical to engendering democratic participation in adult education. It explores conditions of possibility for democratic participation in adult education in terms of (1) conceptualising empowerment as self-representation and autonomy; and (2) interrogating one’s identity through self-deconstruction as an ethical responsibility and commitment to equity and social justice. This analysis has implications for informing and enhancing democratic participation in adult education capacity building, monitoring and evaluation processes. 相似文献
