A method for transcribing signed and spoken language

Transcribing sign communication used simultaneously with spoken English presents investigators with a unique problem: the singular quality of the bimodal communicative interactions cannot be accurately depicted using accepted conventions for recording either spoken or signed language samples. This article proposes guidelines for transcribing such data. The need for guidelines arose during an earlier study of the language development of a hearing child of deaf parents. To meet the immediate needs of that study, rules and conventions from previous studies were combined with newly generated ones, resulting in the guidelines proposed in this article. The guidelines can be applied to data in which intermodal linguistic influence is suspected.  相似文献   

Environmental attitudes of pre-service teachers: A conceptual and methodological dilemma in cross-cultural data collection

Human generated environmental problems are significant issues of global concern. Despite this, varying attitudes towards environments continue to exist across the globe, impacting on environmental decision-making and action at local, national and international levels. This paper probes some of the similarities and differences in environmental attitudes amongst pre-service teachers in Australia, Republic of Maldives and Indonesia. Data were collected using an established environmental attitude questionnaire and individual interviews. The three communities exhibited a similar range of environmental attitudes using the established questionnaire but significant differences emerged when the interview data were analysed phenomenographically. These differences reflect diversity within and across cultural groups that cannot be satisfactorily explained by the theory underpinning the established questionnaire. Consequently, a revised conceptual framework is proposed.  相似文献

This article investigates, through the use of a survey of university libraries, the acquisition of university press products by libraries. There is an increasing interest in linking character education programs with social and academic outcomes. The Child Development Project (CDP) is a character education program that promotes academic and social growth in teachers and students. This theory-driven evaluation employed a quasi-experimental design with matched control schools. School personnel participated in an intensive professional development process to learn the CDP model. Performance measures included state-mandated achievement measures, teacher self-assessment reports, and student attitudes and outcomes. Results yielded support for the CDP model as a strategy to improve social and, if properly implemented, cognitive outcomes in students; the model also improved teacher self-assessment and provided information that may facilitate professional growth about school collegiality. Implications for policy and practice will be discussed.  相似文献

随着社会和高等教育形势的快速发展，高等职业技术教育成为高等教育的一部分，已成为当前社会关注的一个热点。高职学院要能适应高等教育的要求，适应新的办学模式，全面提高教学质量和办学水平，关键是拥有一支与人才培养目标相一致的数量、质量合格的教师队伍。而目前高职学院体育师资队伍的现状，与高等教育的要求及全面推进学校体育工作深化改革的目标，尚存有较大的差距。因此要针对现状，在加强教师政治思想、德育教育，优化教师知识结构，优化师资队伍结构，提高教学科研能力、水平等几个主要方面，采取积极有效的措施；加强队伍建设，全面提高体育教师的整体素质水平，尽快适应高等教育发展的需要及高校体育教学改革、科学研究的要求。  相似文献
