We investigate the structure of codes over Galois rings with respect to the Rosenbloom-Tsfasman (shortly RT) metric. We define a standard form generator matrix and show how we can determine the minimum distance of a code by taking advantage of its standard form. We compute the RT-weights of a linear code given with a generator matrix in standard form. We define maximum distance rank (shortly MDR) codes with respect to this metric and give the weights of the codewords of an MDR code. Finally, we give a decoding technique for codes over Galois rings with respect to the RT metric. 相似文献

A major issue in English language teaching in Turkey and other monolingual countries is the teaching of spoken English. This article reports the initial and final stages of an action research study which used student negotiation to enhance student engagement in speaking classes. The research was conducted in the English Language Teaching Department of a university in Turkey and involved the provision of student-negotiated speaking classes for one term during which qualitative and quantitative data collected from students through questionnaires on a weekly basis informed the design of the speaking activities. The results of content analysis and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests showed that student negotiation promoted student engagement through providing speaking classes appropriate to students’ needs and interests, which resulted in more positive perceived speaking ability and greater willingness to communicate. This study demonstrates the significance of student negotiation in speaking classes and has implications for enhancing student engagement in speaking classroom activities. 相似文献

IntroductionTo interpret test results correctly, understanding of the variations that affect test results is essential. The aim of this study is: 1) to evaluate the clinicians’ knowledge and opinion concerning biological variation (BV), and 2) to investigate if clinicians use BV in the interpretation of test results.Materials and methodsThis study uses a questionnaire comprising open-ended and close-ended questions. Questions were selected from the real-life numerical examples of interpretation of test results, the knowledge about main sources of variations in laboratories and the opinion of clinicians on BV. A total of 399 clinicians were interviewed, and the answers were evaluated using a scoring system ranked from A (clinician has the highest level of knowledge and the ability of using BV data) to D (clinician has no knowledge about variations in laboratory). The results were presented as number (N) and percentage (%).ResultsAltogether, 60.4% of clinicians have knowledge of pre-analytical and analytical variations; but only 3.5% of them have knowledge related to BV. The number of clinicians using BV data or reference change value (RCV) to interpret measurements results was zero, while 79.4% of clinicians accepted that the difference between two measurements results located within the reference interval may be significant.ConclusionsClinicians do not use BV data or tools derived from BV such as RCV to interpret test results. It is recommended that BV should be included in the medical school curriculum, and clinicians should be encouraged to use BV data for safe and valid interpretation of test results. 相似文献

Cyprus is a Mediterranean island divided into two political sections. For political agreement to be possible between the North
(Turkish) and South (Greek), Cyprus should give full consideration to citizenship education at schools with the aim of transmitting
shared values and helping students become EU citizens. In this research, two citizenship textbooks which were designed and
used for eighth grade level were examined using content analysis. One was a Greek book used in South Cyprus and the other
one was a Turkish book used in North Cyprus. Both textbooks were prepared and published in the respective mainland states
(Greece and Turkey) and reflected the culture of these countries. Although Turkey is a candidate state for the European Union,
the Turkish book focuses on empowering local citizen identity in the nation state and does not discuss broader issues related
to global citizenship. By contrast, the Greek textbook covers both national and global issues concerning citizenship. Silman
and ?ağlar suggest that North and South Cyprus should design their own citizenship books to promote the concepts of interdependence,
multiculturalism, democracy, human rights and respect for cultural diversity. The researchers believe that this could facilitate

The impact of biotechnologies on peoples’ everyday lives continuously increases. Measuring young peoples’ attitudes toward
biotechnologies is therefore very important and its results are useful not only for science curriculum developers and policy
makers, but also for producers and distributors of genetically modified products. Despite of substantial number of instruments
which focused on measuring student attitudes toward biotechnology, a majority of them were not rigorously validated. This
study deals with the development and validation of an attitude questionnaire toward biotechnology. Detailed information on
development and validation process of the instrument is provided. Data gathered from 326 university students provided evidence
for the validity and reliability of the new instrument which consists of 28 attitude items on a five point likert type scale.
It is believed that the instrument will serve as a valuable tool for both instructors and researchers in science education

Assessment is a critical component of educational practices and thus impacts educational reform efforts. This article reviews and considers assessment from 2 perspectives: a focus on accountability and a focus on continuous improvement. A class of preservice and practicing science teachers explored notions of assessment while experiencing peer assessment as part of the class. Their online conversations about the processes of establishing quality criteria for peer assessment and their reflections on the experiences compose the primary data source. Two purposes for assessment, accountability and continuous improvement, arose from the data and created conflicts within the individuals and the class. To resolve this conflict, we propose a framework for viewing assessment as part of an integral model (Wilber, 2004) that includes and transcends the dualities. 相似文献

This article aims to provide an overall picture of the use of Twitter as a significant social media tool by mayors in Turkey and to investigate, using content analysis and tweet categorization, whether Twitter is used by mayors in Turkey to offer better public services. Thus, this study focuses on the impact of Twitter in Turkey on transparent, participatory and citizen-oriented local public services. Our analysis has revealed that mayors in Turkey use Twitter especially to share information, send personal messages and share their location and activities. The use of Twitter for transparent, participatory and citizen-oriented public service delivery is not common among mayors. Twitter is adopted and used by mayors mostly for the purposes of self-promotion and political marketing in Turkey. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between organizational culture and academic performance among higher education institutions. The sample was composed of 647 faculty members working in the colleges of education, health, engineering, law, economics, and administrative sciences in four central research universities in Turkey. The Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI) was used to describe organizational culture, whereas University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) data were used to investigate academic performance. A multilevel analysis in which one unit of analysis (i.e., faculty member) was nested within another (i.e., college) was performed. The original contribution made to the literature by this research is its examination of the relationships between organizational culture and tangible performance indicators (e.g., the number of academic publications and citations). Results show that three different culture types were observed in the universities: Innovative team culture, competitive culture, and hierarchic culture. Although significant relationships were found between academic performance and both competitive culture and innovative team culture, the sole significant predictor of academic performance was competitive culture. One particularly interesting finding was that whereas competitive culture was effective on quantitative indicators (i.e., number of publications and number of citations), only innovative team culture affected the indicators related to effectiveness (i.e., article impact level and citation impact level). 相似文献
