The learning initiative described in this paper looks at how the adoption of a flexible, online learning approach can be used to optimize teaching and learning in engineering materials to a variety of engineering disciplines. The main driver for adopting this approach was to increase the effectiveness of delivery of subject matter. Practical examples are given of delivery strategies, activities and assessment protocols. This flexible, online approach required the development and implementation a learning management system for the provision of online lectures, audiovisual material, discovery-based learning activities and communication tools for the guidance of students in the self-management of their personal learning styles. The implementation of such an online initiative led to an encouraging response from both students and staff. This was seen as pivotal in its contribution to the success of the overall learning strategy.  相似文献

Many children in Malawi have poor access to learning and are at risk of exclusion and early dropout. In the context of HIV/AIDS, formal schools need to become more flexible and responsive to children's lives. Introducing an educational model that integrates open and flexible learning strategies with conventional schooling, this paper highlights the potential of such an approach to enhance learning experiences, bring psychosocial benefits and improve retention of vulnerable pupils in high HIV prevalence communities in rural Malawi. This paper also argues that effective innovation requires strategies to create an enabling environment and promote an inclusive philosophy within schools.  相似文献

柔性管理是近年来备受世界各国普遍关注的一种管理思潮,它体现了以人为本的管理思想。但单纯强调柔性管理,割裂柔性管理与刚性管理之间的辩证联系,不利于图书馆人力资源建设。把柔性管理与刚性管理结合起来并导入图书馆管理中,将对图书馆的发展产生深刻的影响。在刚柔相济的管理过程中,应注意制度化建设、组织文化建设、营造宽松的人文环境,并在图书馆聘任制管理中实现柔性管理与刚性管理的有机结合。  相似文献

Flexible pedagogies [Ryan and Tilbury 2013. Flexible Pedagogies: New Pedagogical Ideas. York: Higher Education Academy] place learner empowerment at the centre of curriculum development. Learner empowerment requires students to feel that they belong and are active in the learning process. This paper illuminates how, through the adoption of flexible pedagogies, belonging and trust were created in a cohort of 52 international postgraduate students, and the impact that this had on student learning. A qualitative interpretative approach captures students’ perceptions of aspects of curriculum design and delivery that aided their transition, promoted belonging, and empowered them as learners, leading to transformational change. This paper uses Ryan and Tilbury’s Flexible Pedagogies Framework [2013. Flexible Pedagogies: New Pedagogical Ideas. York: Higher Education Academy] to exemplify practice and discuss principles for curriculum design. Themes include; learner empowerment, future-facing education, decolonising education, crossing boundaries, transformational capabilities, and social learning. Recommendations highlight the need to challenge institutional constraints, employ creative teaching practices, embed assessment that promotes reflective practice, and create belonging through social learning.  相似文献
