Lack of a close ‘Information systems (IS)–business relationship’ has been described as a potential inhibitor to improving the contribution that information systems (IS) make to business performance. Yet the value of specific attributes of an enduring relationship between IS and business remains to be demonstrated by empirically confirming their link to IS performance. Using data collected from 167 South African and Australian companies, this study examined the effect of three relational attributes, namely commitment, mutual understanding and shared vision, on the contribution of IS to business performance. The study also examines the interrelationship amongst the relational attributes. Results revealed that a strong IS–business relationship is a significant determinant of IS performance. Organisations more successful in their use of IS are characterised by strong commitment on the part of the business to IS efforts, higher levels of IS understanding of the business, and a long-term agreement, between business and IS executives, on IS priorities. Results have important implications for organisations looking to improve the contribution of IS to organisational performance. 相似文献

Research into small-group collaboration during middle to late childhood shows that while individual understanding can be promoted through exchanging differing opinions, the joint analyses that groups construct while collaborating play a tangential role. Individuals may or may not accept these constructions depending upon processes of reflection and reconciliation that are triggered through difference and sometimes occur post-group. Recognizing a dearth of research with older participants (together with inconclusive suggestions that collaborative constructions may become more significant with age), the reported study examines the impact of small-group collaboration during adolescence and early adulthood. Forty-six pairs of students aged between 10 and 22 years worked on a computer-presented task that required them to discuss and predict the trajectories objects follow when they fall from stationary or moving carriers. Associations between group dialogue and post-test performance confirmed a key role for differing opinions while collaborative constructions turned out to have little relevance. 相似文献

We examine whether the array representation can support children’s understanding and reasoning in multiplication. To begin,
we define what we mean by understanding and reasoning. We adopt a ‘representational-reasoning’ model of understanding, where
understanding is seen as connections being made between mental representations of concepts, with reasoning linking together
the different parts of the understanding. We examine in detail the implications of this model, drawing upon the wider literature
on assessing understanding, multiple representations, self explanations and key developmental understandings. Having also
established theoretically why the array representation might support children’s understanding and reasoning, we describe the
results of a study which looked at children using the array for multiplication calculations. Children worked in pairs on laptop
computers, using Flash Macromedia programs with the array representation to carry out multiplication calculations. In using
this approach, we were able to record all the actions carried out by children on the computer, using a recording program called
Camtasia. The analysis of the obtained audiovisual data identified ways in which the array representation helped children,
and also problems that children had with using the array. Based on these results, implications for using the array in the
