This paper, which is particularly centered on the student’s learning process, is the first half of a detailed study of selectivity in Whitehead’s philosophy of education. Here, by setting forth the analogy between the creative process exhibited in Whitehead’s Theory of Prehensions and the learning process through an interpretation of the term, ‘prehending subject’ as ’learner,’ I argue that selectivity, via ‘negative prehensions,’ is the efficient motive power at work in the process of learning. Various concrete classroom examples of selectivity are alluded to, which lend support to this thesis. With clues from the Aims of Education, by reading the theory of prehensions with some conceptual modifications made for the purposes of education, I present the perspective that, as one side of a logical contrast, Whitehead’s theory of prehensions can be said to be conducive to a critical pedagogy. 相似文献

Instructional design is not a linear process: designers have to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of alternative solutions,
taking into account different kinds of conflicting and changing constraints. To make sure that they eventually choose the
most optimal one, they have to keep on collecting information, reconsidering continuously whether their own decisions are
still justified in the light of the latest insights. We have studied the role of iteration during instructional design. For
our research, we have used an ISD-based method for the specification of training simulators. During our empirical evaluation
study, we introduced five events that are likely to cause iteration. The results show that the quality of the designs is not
directly related to the amount of iteration. We conclude that there are different kinds of iteration, triggered by different
kinds of actions and events. We propose a list of triggers for iteration some of which originate from outside (new information,
new opinions/arguments and acquisition procedures); others are caused by, or evolve from interaction with the design process
itself (discovery of missing input, need to repair errors, new insights based on work later on in the design process, and
new ideas of the designers).

This study seeks to develop and validate an Assessment Centre (AC) tool for the evaluation and selection of school leaders, focusing on the identification of competencies that influence teaching and learning outcomes. International research supports the creation of Assessment Centres to select candidates for these roles, due to their superior predictive capacity over traditional methods. In this research, a model composed of four face-to-face instruments (an interview to assess competencies, a human resources exercise, a class observation exercise, and a strategic analysis exercise) was designed and validated which simulated the key tasks of a school principal. To establish the desired performance outcomes, three competencies and 15 indicators were selected, based on international and local standards. The analysis of performance results was obtained from a sample of 164 participants made up of teachers, school leaders and principals. The results suggest positive evidence for construct validity, concurrent criteria validity, and reliability between evaluators. Moreover, the data obtained from a sub-sample of principals, with three or more years of experience in their role, allowed for the association of their AC scores with the results of their school organisations, as measured by the National System for the Measurement of Educational Quality in the years 2013 and 2016. 相似文献
