ABSTRACT

With unique historical resources, academic archives can and should play an active role in support of the teaching and research missions of a college. Not only can archival teaching and collaborative learning teach students the importance of primary resources and how to use them but they also can provide support for the archives. Through partnership with faculty and students, the collaborative research program at Rollins College provides a viable means for enhancing the awareness and use of the unique historical collections, and, therefore, enriching students' appreciation of the liberal arts heritage of the institution while also providing students with a meaningful research experience.  相似文献

Digitization of journal collections in libraries is inevitable with the advent of Information Communication Technology (ICT). There is a need to digitize journals in the academic library in order to preserve and to give wider visibility and accessibility to information resources for teaching, learning, and research. This article describes the processes of journal collection digitization in Kenneth Dike Library, University of Ibadan. Underfunding and copyright clearance are the challenges encountered, among others. The study recommends adequate funding and concludes that the benefit of instant access to digital information is the most distinguishing attribute in this present information age.  相似文献

This presents the experience at Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries in developing a pilot project proposal for electronic reserves. The proposal served as the blueprint for planning as well as gaining the support of the library administration and library staff by discussing goals, scope, intellectual property management, budget, and timetable. This article is devoted to the career of Sergius Yakobson, a librarian, historian, and educator. Its first part focuses on his role in the development of the Slavic collections of the Library of Congress in the 1940s to 1950s after his emigration to the United States. In the second part, the author compares ways in which Slavica, Rossica, and Sovetica developed in America and France during and after World War II, using materials from Yakobson's survey of Paris Slavic collections made in 1953. ABSTRACT

This essay reports on the latest efforts to assess the collections of materials relating to the Russian Revolution held in the Hoover Institution and the New York Public Library (NYPL). The first section reviews the presentations made by Bertrand Patenaude, Michael Herrick, and Robert Davis during the roundtable “Collecting the Revolution” at the annual meeting of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies in November 2017.
